Dr. Richard Lewis Holt, MD

I think Dr. Holt is a jerk. I was 40 pounds overweight when he prescribed lithium for me. Now I am 60 pounds overweight. In addition, the lithium caused hypothyroidism, so I will have to take thyroid medication for the rest of my life. Prior to taking lithium, I had no thyroid problems at all. The hypothyroidism also led to weight gain. I think that Dr. Holt should gain 40 pounds & then be put on lithium. He needs slowing down anyway; the way he treats patients is to just babble on at an excessive rate so that they cannot possibly understand what he is saying. Let's see how he likes the weight gain & hypothyroidism caused by lithium. All I saw of Dr. Holt was him congratulating himself on what a fine psychiatrist he is; yet he doesn't seem to care one bit about his patients. He doesn't even try to communicate effectively with patients and ask if they understand what he's told them. He just has too large of an ego for me. I wish I had sought treatment from some other… doctor because he not only didn't help me--he hurt me!

That is the best I can say. Mediocre, just wanted to do the minimum to get rid of me. Didn't bother to go in depth. He does not seem to know what he is doing. Ugh. Are there any good psychiatrists???
