Dr. Richard Kenneth Hurley, MD

For years I have tolerated this doctor's arrogance, rudeness and interrupting my sentences because his treatment seemed competent enough, and pain management physicians are few and far between. He spends a lot of time talking about himself versus my medical diagnosis. The first time I told him I didn't feel heard and asked for a better explanation or a 2nd opinion, he fired me as a patient, refused to see me again or refill my chronic medications. His parting shot was "you won't find anyone else to fill the medication I give you." Probably for the best, time to get away from this horrible excuse for a person!

I was referred dr Hurley per my pcm. I came to my appointment and he never came in the room, his nurse asked me a series of questions about my pain and had me do a few walking and leg lifting test she wrote everything down and then excused herself to go consult DR Hurley about my pain and condition.. The nurse came back in and told me dr Hurley felt my pain was caused by the SI joint and that he wanted me to come back for injections.. the next day I had a therapy appointment where I was unable to do what was asked and was deemed not a candidate for PT.. The next morning I called to see Dr Hurley do to the amount of pain I was experiencing, this time Dr Hurley came in the office discussed what originally caused my pain and did a few movement positions with my legs I was crying and expressing my pain verbally one I was back in the sitting position he then said “ I have SI pain for years and if I acted the way you are my dad would have let me not to be a cry baby”followed by I’m not… saying you are a crybaby it just how you handle your pain... I was so floored I have never been judged this way by any doctor or physician to include any Army medical staff and they are very straight forward... I will seek my pain management elsewhere

I have been with Dr. Hurley for 10 years. I first met him when he came into my hospital room. He came in and called me the fan lady, had me laughing right off. I kept my room extremely cold and had a fan brought into my hospital room. Dr. Hurley instantly evaluated my pain and got it where it was somewhat bariable. I was in the hospital for 3 month's due to me catching MRSA from a back fusion I had. I went through so much during this hospital stay, but every time Dr. Hurley came in he had a smile on his face and always made me laugh. Once I got out of the hospital I started seeing him at his Providence Clinic. I was still in so much pain, falling all the time and my quality of life down right sucked, to be honest! Dr. Hurley was on a mission to make my quality of life better and he did! He introduced me to a Spinal Cord Stimulator, considering my situation was only going to get worse due to my nerve damage and spinal issues. The Spinal Cord Stimulator was a miracle! I quit falling when… I walked, the pain went down from 10 to about a 6 to 7. I was able to enjoy some of my life again and it was all because of this Doctor! Dr. Hurley has never ever given up on me, from day one. He listens to my issues and what is going on with me each time I go to see him. Dr. Hurley went from his Waco office to his Gatesville office. I had a choice to stay here in Waco with a new Doctor or go with Dr. Hurley to Gatesville. I chose Dr. Hurley and I will choose him every time. Dr. Hurley has done so many different procedures on me, he knows what he is doing! Dr. Hurley has a blunt and honest personality which I totally love because so do I! I don't want a Doctor that is going to beat around the bush or just tell me what he thinks I want to hear! I need someone that is always going to trust in me like I trust in him and Dr. Hurley is that Doctor. I would trust Dr. Hurley with my life and have! Dr. Hurley has got onto me about my weight several times and the reason why is because he is trying to help me, not belittle me! I have a underactive thyroid and it's not easy to lose weight, especially with a lot of health problems like I have. Some day's I have problems even getting out of bed, but I do it! A lot of weight on your body can cause so much pain and damage to a lot of your body parts. Dr. Hurley has to tell you what you have to do to help with your pain, that is why he is in Pain Management. You also need to realize he has people over him that look at each patient and see's how this patient is improving on Dr. Hurley's methods. I see all these reviews talking so much trash about him and it down right upsets me! Dr. Hurley is my Doctor, but to me he is so much more, family and so is his staff! Yes, Dr. Hurley isn't perfect, we all have things we can approve on, but if he is getting onto you about something, there is a reason behind it, he isn't just pinpointing thing's to pick on you! I will recommend him to anyone that lives with chronic pain every day!

Total pill pusher, and has been so for years! He took my husband off Vicodin for his back pain and put him on Methadone - yes, Methadone, what they give to heroin addicts. My husband was dead the next day. He was 31 years old. Then Dr. Hurley had the audacity to come to the funeral, in his effing scrubs - couldn't be bothered to change his clothes I guess. Needless to say, I had to basically kick him out of the funeral home. After all that, he refused to talk to me about my husband and his decision to change his medications. I had to go to our GP to have the autopsy report explained. He's a pill pusher, a best friend to big pharma, and DOES NOT care for patients the way a physician should. Hippocratic oath states do no harm- yeah, well not for Dr Hurley.

This man is very very judgemental, very rude, condescending, paranoid, accusatory etc. He will accuse you of being drug addict, drug seller. He will make you go to work to get meds. Even if you're disabled. STAY AWAY!

Never again, have always complained to family and friends about the way dr. Hurley in pain management talks to you when you go in for an appointment but his skills always outweighed his attitude until today, had enough of him talking as if he walks on water and everyone and everything else is not his equal. He is a great doctor if you don't like to finish a sentence cause he will finish it for you, if you would like to be told how you are wrong about everything and that your not special. He absolutely has the worse bedside manor in the clinic, if you can get past the "I walk on water " attitude and can handle the belittling that he will do to you at the visits, then good luck, I going to take my money elsewhere

Dr. Hurley is very opinionated. He asked about my sex life and I told him it's non-existent and he got irate and took it very personal for some reason. I will never go back to him.

I have the upmost respect for Dr. Hurley, he tells it. like it is !!!. I know I am getting the best care with him. The shots I get for my knees are working, but I can only receive every six months. I have a very important decision to make in the near future to continue the shots or knee replacement. Not there for pain pills, a solution is what I am looking for. James G

read the reviews, I am 78 yo, seen many Drs , good better and best..Dr Hurley is really good, serious, give you time and explanains everything..what else would you want..Helped me emmensely.seen him for several years on a couple pain issues...if he does not give you hydrocodone or such, it is for a reason, plain and simple. his staff is good, especially the scheduler...if he told you something like you need to loose weight, or (an addition). the truth may hurt or be the truth. He does get to the point, like it or not

I have diagnosed Neuropathy in my legs. He decided in 3 minutes I didn't have neuropathy and should not be on S.S.I. . He doesn't listen and is very absolute in what he thinks you should do. Me he told to get some Tylenol and get a job.
