Dr. Richard Won Kang

Dr. Kang took care of our son who is a collegiate athlete and we couldn't be happier. He spent a lot of time with us explaining various treatment options and answered all of our questions. His bedside manner is A+ and he got our son back to full strength playing sports again. Highly recommended!

I have had two surgeries (Knee and Shoulder) and my wife has had one (knee), performed by Dr. Kang. In all three instances Dr. Kang performed brilliantly in diagnosis, pre op, surgery, post op, recovery and the recommended protocol and follow up for physical therapy. All through each step Dr.Kang was kind, patient and forthright, in explaining, his treatment plan and in post op questions. In the first surgery, Dr Kang was the only one of five doctors I interviewed who recommended the particular procedure I eventually chose. It was a total success and completely alleviated issues I was having with my knee. His performance on my right shoulder and my wife's knee surgery were also extraordinary successes. It has always been my opinion that great doctors are vitally important to any great community. As one such physician, Dr. Kang has earned my confidence and my praise.

Dr. Kang treated me and my family with the utmost compassion care. Dr.Kang allways answers any of my questions and concerns, never felt rushed at any of my appointments. He has a rare quality of not only being a gifted surgeon, but his bedside manner is remarkable. He goes above and beyond in every interaction we had with him, and we are forever grateful for his care. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Kang for his expertise, thoroughness, and patient-centered focus.

I am 70 years old and have been very active all of my life. Over the last few years I have had some terrible pain in my hips that limited my ability to walk properly and exercise. The prior doctor I was seeing insisted that the pain was coming from my back and treating me as such. Then I had a terrible fall and the pain became much worse. I went to the ortho open access clinic and met Dr Kang, quite by chance. He immediately suspected what my problem was - torn gluteus medius muscles on both hips causing a Trendelenberg Gait along with severe pain. After exray and MRI he confirmed that diagnosis and said that the fall had exacerbated my already deteriorating muscle (due to age, repetitive exercise over the years). He said he could do the repair with minimally invasive surgery and with my level of pain, he worked hard to get me in within weeks for MY FIRST SURGERY EVER. He is kind, compassionate, encouraging and understood my fear and my pain. I am so very thankful for his skill,… knowledge and understanding. I am 6 weeks out of surgery. Have had no pain on that hip. Remarkable is all I can say. His quick diagnosis and action really has changed my life. I wish all doctors were this terrific.

My daughter had two knee surgeries with Dr. Kang within the past 18 months. Both of these procedures required a level of expertise many surgeons do not have. The first procedure involved an ACL repair combined with a complete root tear of the meniscus. The second procedure, on the same knee, was a repair of a significant bucket tear. In both cases, my daughter was able to make a full recovery. Dr. Kang had the rare quality of not only being a gifted surgeon, but his bedside manner was remarkable. He went above and beyond in every interaction we had with him, and we are very grateful for his care.

Dr. Kang did two surgeries on my knee for a meniscal root repair. The first one failed - there are no guarantees on surgery - and after a consult with another highly respected orthopedic surgeon, went back for the second. My physical therapist was interested in observing the surgery, so she scrubbed in. Additionally there were 2 reps from one of the instrument companies he wa using to see how he performed. My physical therapist said she had never seen such care and compassion during the procedure, and the two reps acknowledged his skill and thoroughness. This time, the surgery went beautifully and I’m back to my activities. He always took time to explain and it never bothered him when I asked hard questions. I would highly recommend him.

I have a friend who had surgery with Dr. Kang and he raved about his results and lack of post-operative pain, so when I got injured I sought out Dr. Kang. Dr Kang treated me and my injury with the utmost care. I walked in feeling anxious, but his attention to detail, thorough explanations, compassion, and friendly manner put me immediately at ease. I did not end up needing surgery, and I fully recovered with the treatment plan he recommended. I have highly recommended him to others.

My father who is in his mid 70s and who LOVES to golf had multiple tears in his rotator cuff. After a consultation with Dr. Kang, he recommended surgery to repair the tears and one year later my father is back on the course with no more pain! He will have many more years of playing golf! Dr. Kang was respectful, patient, and answered all our questions and concerns. My father was at ease for his procedure and Dr. Kang made sure he felt comfortable before and after the surgery. Dr. Kang definitely takes time with his patients and each appointment never felt rushed. We couldn’t be more pleased with how well the surgery went and are so thankful for a doctor who has excellent bedside manners and expertise! I recently underwent joint-preservation surgery for my hip. Dr. Kang removed bone fragments, reconstructed and reattached the badly damaged labrum, removed cam and pincer deformities that have caused pain and irritation over many, many years. He also addressed cartilage irregularities on the ball and in the socket. At two weeks post-op, I was walking! He took time to explain everything before and after surgery to me and, especially, my wife. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Kang for his expertise, thoroughness, and patient-centered focus.

Dr. Kang is everything one could want in a surgeon- competent, caring, good listener, and explains things well. My medial meniscus surgery and recovery went as planned, and his staff is always very courteous and efficient. I highly recommend him!
