Dr. Richard Alan Kucera, MD

Moved back to the area after being away for quite sometime. Dr K was who I chose for my general practitioner upon returning. At the initial appt, as we went over my handful of medical issues, he stated he did not feel comfortable with medicating people with behavioral health issues (i have a hx of ADHD). I wasn't too taken aback from this (even though i have always received all of my BH meds from my Family Doc in the past for my ADHD, depression, and anxiety) given the times of addiction we live in now, i get why some doctors may tip toe around certain addictive medications. We then began talking about my anemia and how it was hereditary. Out of no where, he asked if the women in my family have had hysterectomies and if i would like a uterine ablation, like it was no big deal. Dude, I am 28! I would prefer you NOT singe the inside of uterus, thanks... After that appt, i was really turned off and was seriously thinking about finding another doctor, but being the person that I am and… taking into consideration the fact that I was EXTREMELY spoiled at the last office I went too, I decided to give him a second chance. BIG MISTAKE....HUGE! I just had my second yearly physical with him yesterday and it went worse than the first. Along with the routine check up mumbo jumbo everyone goes through, I expressed to him that my husband was an Army vet struggling with PTSD who refuses to medicate. I told him that I am having problems figuring out how to manage everything going on and i felt extremely overwhelmed. I told him that i cry about 3-4days/wk bc of the stress and anxiety and how it all upsets me. I asked him what he thinks I should do and his response was 'i don't know, isn't there a number on the back of your insurance card?' I tried to explain myself better by saying "I mean, I understand that you don't feel comfortable prescribing those types of medications, but I need help. I can't do this anymore and I don't know who I should see...who do you suggest, do you think I just need to see a psychologist to talk things through and make a plan or do you think maybe i need some meds..? Like I told you before, I've always just seen my Family Dr for all of this before so idk who to go to and since Im newer to the area, I don't even know where to go." He then just looks at me and says "Let me get back to ya on that." If you have made it this far, congratulations, however, you now understand the star rating I chose for Dr. Richard Kucera. He does his overall job as a physician, yes, but minimally and when it comes to his moral practices of someone's mental and behavioral health, he is DANGEROUS and should be avoided at all costs. God forbid I was someone who self-harmed or was contemplating suicide and he said what he did.

Very good doctor. Excellent bedside manner. Does not hesitate to refer you to a specialist for specific treatment.
