Dr. Richard Joseph Martin, MD

I highly recommend Dr. Martin as a surgeon. I came into the ER in horrible shape and ended up having appendicitis. I had to go in for emergency surgery to have the appendix removed. Dr. Martin was professional and everything went very smoothly. My care was exceptional from him as well as St. Al's. He showed me that he really cares about his patients during my ER visit and at my after care visits. I was able to call with any questions and was answered promptly by the triage nurse. I was extremely sick when I went in, and could not have asked for better care. Thank you to Dr. Martin, his staff, and St. Alphonsus for exceptional and immediate care.

A while back, I had emergency surgery with Dr. Martin. We were all so impressed with his knowledge, skill and bedside manner. Even though it was the middle of the night, he took the time to explain to me and my family exactly what was wrong with me and the plan to get me better. He answered all our questions in a way that we could understand. That made us very comfortable. My surgery went great and I’m now completely recovered. My office visits were very pleasant. Each time I saw Dr. Martin ahead of schedule...thats almost unheard of. The entire staff was very helpful especially his nurse Christie. If you or any of your family need surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Martin and his staff.

BEST HERNIA SURGEON! I had 2 large hernias for years but afraid to get them fixed as my friends who had hernia surgery missed work and had pain for weeks. My Dr. referred me to Dr. Martin who repaired both at the same time laparoscopically. Surgery on Friday, back to work Tuesday. I had almost no pain. Only took 2pain pills. My friends were amazed and jealous. He explained everything in a way I could understand and answered all my questions. His staff was friendly and helpful especially Christee

Attended an appointment with my sister to grasp a better understanding on the two hernias that needs to be repaired. It was hard to comprehend his dialogue due to him using long medical terminology. I would ask him to clarify what he meant and he would make would grunt and become irritated. This was unacceptable behavior especially from a health care professional. The staff in the other hand was ridiculous, when my siblings would ask them a simple question about her paperwork they would become confused. The day of her surgery she dropped of her paperwork and 3 week later in her post op appointment they still had not filled out the paperwork. When I attend St Luke’s they had my paperwork ready within 3-4 days. This is ridiculous and that whole office needs to be put under observation.

Dr Martin did both a gallbladder removal and double hernia repair on me all within a month of each other. I can’t say enough positive about both his communication and skill as a surgeon. Recovery was much faster and better than I expected.

Getting a second opinion gave me an excellent surgeon. I was told by the first opinion I just had to live with it. Dr. R J Martin was my second opinion and selected surgeon. I had a very complicated surgery. Dr. Martin did diagnostic evaluations and reviews before preforming my surgery. He is compassionate, dedicated, very competent and included my choices and concerns at every step...I had a voice and he heard it. He walked beside me by allowing all questions and concerns to be asked and answered. Due to the complexity of my surgery I was under 5 1/2 hours. at St. Al's on Garrity. My gallbladder had stones and also attached itself to my colon and other ducts. I had an enormous amount of inflammation and my CT scan only showed part of what Dr. Martin found. I had complete confidence in him. This allowed me to stay relaxed with the realization I would receive excellent care. Dr. Martin is Humble...Kind....Humorous and and Approachable. I RECOMMEND HIM WITHOUT ANY RESERVATIONS.… You will receive excellent care from him.

Dr Martin did an outstanding job on my initial visit and during Pre-op and Post-op. He was very helpful in walking me through the six week recovery schedule that I truly adhered to and it made the whole experience very positive.

About 2 years ago I had my hernia surgery with Dr. Martin. At the time i was playing football at Boise State and had seen a few different surgeons to examine me. They had all told me that I had one hernia and that it was okay to wait a few months to have surgery even though i was in a lot of pain! After about a week of severe pain i had been referred to go see Dr. Martin and was told to at least go see him to see what he has to say about the hernia. At my first appointment with Dr. Martin, I found out that I actually had 3 hernias and asked him how soon I could get them repaired due to how bad I hurt. He got me in the very next day! The day after my surgery I had 2 small wounds and actually felt better immediately after I had the surgery. My recovery was only a week and a half and I was back lifting and preparing for football.It has been a good amount of time since the surgery and I cant be any happier with the results from it! Dr. Martin sincerely cares about me and everyone he works… with and treated me like family. If you or anyone you know is looking to get a surgery done I would HIGHLY recommend him because I know you will be in great hands! Thanks again Dr. Martin for everything!

Very professional, very courteous, everything went as he advised it might

Had hernia surgery. Had me up and going in a week. At the initial appointment, he took the necessary time to go over in great detail the problem I was having and the procedure he would use to correct it. He made made me feel very comfortable and confidant in his ability to repair the problem. He is the best!
