Dr. Richard Alphonso Petersen, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Richard Peterson for several years. I have complete trust in him and his staff, and I have no complaints. Despite moving to Sunrise, I still make the drive for my annual appointment with him.

Doctor sits down with you after each visit to make sure all needs are met. Staff remembers you even after not seeing them after a full year.

La verdad ya llevo años viendo al Doctor Petersen y no tengo queja alguna ni de El ni de todo el equipo de trabajo! Se ha preocupado por mi salud y ha tomado siempre medidas seguras y rapidas por mi bienestar, estoy tan a gusto que me mude lejos de esa area y prefiero manejar con tal de no cambairlo!

I didn’t have to wait long for my appointment, maybe 20 minutes to be called in after my appt time (I had shown up early in case they had paperwork) and about 10 min for him to show up after being worked up by his MA. His MA, Mari was incredibly nice, she made me feel comfortable, and asked appropriate questions. He, on the other hand, asked about 2 questions max- and I think I’m being generous with his history taking. Made a comment about my ingrown hairs from waxing and how he doesn’t recommend it, I never asked. Then when I asked him for a lab req to do an STI/STD panel was hesitant to agree even though I’m trying to get checked regularly just to be safe. He never questioned my sexual history or even discussed if I was having safe sex to begin with. He was quick to prescribe me birth control and didn’t go over any potential side effect and never even bothered to ask if I had any other health conditions which may contraindicate the medicine. He answered the three questions I had… in the shortest manner possible. In short, he was completely uninterested in me as a patient and has less of a personality than a soggy cardboard box. I wouldn’t recommend him as a gynecologist for anyone.

So let me start by saying my appointment was at 12:30 and I didn't get called till 2:00 pm. His assistant came in and asked me a couple of questions, at first I thought she was nice. I went in because I was pregnant and when she saw that I was 20 she asked me if I wanted to get pregnant or if it was a mistake. When I told her I wanted to get pregnant she looked up at me with an amazed face (IT IS NOT HER BUSINESS AND PLANNED OR NOT, MY BABY ISN'T A MISTAKE.) after waiting for almost 20 min Dr. Petersen finally comes in and again asks me the same thing as she did , I told him I wanted the baby and he said "oh really?" With a sarscastic voice. VERY unproffesional of them because it surely isnt their business. I went for a check up not for a life quiz. After, I went into his office for him to just tell me to come back when my results were back. Not even for an ultra sound to see how far along I was or anything. He obviously doesn't care about his patients because as I've read in other… reviews he acts like he hates his job. I changed my OB. Right away and I can say I made the BEST CHOICE! Hey DR. If you are reading this , TRY GETTING ANOTHER JOB WHERE YOU AREN'T MISERABLE AND LEARN HOW TO TREAT YOUR PATIENTS WITH RESPECT. So my advice to all the ladies that are reading this, don't waste your time with him... I never write reviews or anyone or anything but he definetly needs a bad experience review.

Have had several horrible experiences here and have heard nothing but bad things from others who have been here as well. If you plan on seeing him make sure to you know that you will waste atleast 3 hours of your day, mostly waiting around. (and he is not even worth the wait) I waited in the waiting room for an hour and a half last time i went.... once i was called in i thought the appointment would go by quicker...boy was i wrong... i sat in the room waiting for him about 30 minutes or more.... during this time i heard him in his office talking on the phone (not about work) and there was a birthday being celebrated in the office as well, so they decided to sing happy birthday and enjoy cake...i heard all of this going on while waited all this time in the examination room, i was wearing a gown and nothing else. (not very comfortable to say the least) Finally he and the nurse came in and just said hello and asked me to sit back....after my examination he asked me to go to his office… once i was dressed. Guess what i did in his office..... wait again... as he typed and looked on his computer screen... he barely acknowledged me as i sat there in front of him. Then he finally looked up and said what he needed to and that he would call me when the results came in....I asked questions and all his responses were short...and he spoke to me as if i was an idiot. He is very unproffesional. He acts like he doesnt want to be there and is basically there cause he has to work. I understand some doctors tend to be quiet and reserved, but this man is just rude and borish. I have seen this doctor several times and he never remembers me. I finally switched to another doctor and i am happy to say that i am glad i did.

Dr. Petersen is not in-sync with his patients. Whenever I visit him, he seems to not remember me, he has to read my file Which he does in front of me and takes him about 10 minutes to get caught up on my history. I am pregnant and go see him every 3 weeks. I find it ridiculous that as someone who visits his office so often, he cannot remember me. I have also noticed that he is very careless when it comes to prescribing medications. He does not really care what side effects it can cause to your health as long as it takes care of the problem. As a person who does not like medication, I hate this about him. After my baby is born I plan to switch doctors as I am highly dissatisfied with his clinic and services. Also, the waiting time is RIDICULOUSLY long! I've waited over an hour to see him on multiple occasions.
