Dr. Richard Joseph Pettit, MD

I was referred to Dr. Pettit for a minor surgery. During our initial consultation, he came across extremely abrasive and exhibited aggressive behavior - with voice raised, close proximity, and asking multiple pointed questions back to back regarding sensitive past medical history and current diagnoses that I, as the patient, was unable to answer. I was alone in the room and stopped him during the barrage of insensitive questions. I refused to continue the consultation without a nurse in the room. He slammed the door and yelled to the nurse behind the door to come sit in because, "We're having iiiisssuueeesss..." I felt backed into a corner, insulted and mocked. I have never before been treated this way by a healthcare professional. His behavior is absolutely unprofessional and I was brought to tears during the appointment and to hysterics once I got out of the office. Do not attend a consultation alone. Physicians, please recommend other surgeons. I refused to have him… complete my surgery and requested a referral to another surgeon. I was graciously seen by Dr. Deitrick who exhibited kindness, empathy and professionalism.

After talking with the dotor no follow up instructions from his nurse or office staft . Took my copayment for nothing

Have only good things to say. I was welcomed and treated outstandingly by everyone.

Haven't had the surgery yet, so I cannot evaluate the follow up. So far this is an excellent team. I have used this service several times in the past and I highly recommend them.

Looking for a surgeon who will listen to you, discuss all options, make you feel comfortable and less anxious, make you laugh, tell you exactly how it is, then you need Dr Richard Pettit! After surgery he will follow up and make sure your needs are met. He really cares about YOU!

This doctors visit was very enjoyable. The doctor and the staff were great. What a pleasant experience.

The entire staff at Richmond Surgical Specialists were courteous, pleasant and professional. This is the 4th or 5th procedure Dr. Pettit and his colleagues have done for me. While the surgery was performed by Erin, Dr. Pettit's PA, Dr Pettit did come in to talk with me and discuss the diagnosis and procedure. My wife & I really enjoy Dr. Pettit, respect his ability and knowledge and seek him out for surgery. He can be abrupt and some may find his style coarse. Personally I love it and highly value him and his experience. He may not be for everyone, but he is for me.

Communication is one way, his/their way. His physician & medical assistants are awful and use the "call, leave your message on their "voicemail" model in dealing with sick people. Pain medication post surgery (once anesthesia wears off) is inadequate & guess what, you will be on your own until they check their voicemail messages at their convenience. There are better choices available. Take the time and seek them out. You will be glad you did on the long run!
