Dr. Richard Brian Reff, MD

I had knee surgery, a quad tendon repair, 2 years ago with Dr. Reff. His bedside manner was excellent. His attention to my issue, however, left a lot to be desired. When I first saw Dr. Reff I was one week out from the injury. I had a torn quad ligament which was found by an MRI approximately 2 and 1/2 months after my first visit to his office. It was not until three months after the injury that surgery, a repair, was performed. Literature on repair or reconstruction of quad tendon states that better outcomes from a torn quad tendon repair is exhibited by expedited surgery. Three months was way too late. I went through PT without gaining strength or the use of my knee. Finally, after a year of follow up visits with Dr. Reff and no progress on my knee, I sought a second opinion. This lead to had to a second surgery where the surgeon had to do a quad tendon reconstruction. I am still feeling the impact of the delayed surgery by Dr. Reff.

Absolutely an incredible experience. We went concerned about an issue with my daughter and had been to other doctors before this who rushed us and did not diagnose the problem. Dr. Reff was so patient with us. Spending time to explain what was wrong and bringing in models of the arm to show us. He took us as a last minute appointment. He was so wonerful that I hugged him goodbye. I cannot say enough good things.

Most personable care I could imagine from a surgeon.

As opposed to the other two orthopaedic surgeons I visited, he took the time to explain the problem and discuss the pros and cons of several approaches. I was more able to participate in making a decision and in understanding what I needed to do to help myself.

Very smart doctor. Takes his time with patients. Listens to patients. He really cares and wants to help. Very highly recommended!!!

Dr. Reff knows his stuff, but he seemed disinterested, inattentive, and in a hurry when he treated me and a work colleague. For the amount of money we pay, we should expect better. He should talk to us before requesting a xray to see if one is necessary (even if it generally is in most cases). He should provide us a copy of the x ray and he should outline specific options for care. He should dedicate at least 15 minutes to each patient, and should hold the injured area to see what the matter is. These are things he should be doing at least at a minimum. Its clear he does this sort of thing for athletes; he should do this for his regular patients as well.
