Summary
Born in Salisbury Maryland, Richard Rinehardt grew up in Baltimore but became a transplanted Virginian when he started at Randolph-Macon College. After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology, he earned his master's in clinical psychology at Loyola College. Three years serving as a staff psychologist for the department of corrections, in a maximum security prison, provided all the needed incentive to pursue the study of medicine. After taking top grades in premed science and medical school at MCV, he completed Ob/Gyn residency and has been in private practice in the Richmond community ever since.
Despite a long and successful career including multiple citing’s in several Richmond magazines as a “Top Doc†his best move was in marrying the former Betty Richardson in 1977. The years brought much happiness along with two great sons and two great daughters. The blessing of a granddaughter in 2010 was icing on the cake for Dr Rinehardt. No biography could be complete without …acknowledging the greatest of influences on his development; his parents the late William E. Rinehardt and the honorable Mary Ellen T. Rinehardt. Their loving, tender and guiding hands always were present.
Spare time came all too infrequently, but has always centered around playing sports, especially basketball and tennis. Trips to the outer banks of North Carolina have always been a special pleasure.
His most rewarding experiences in medicine were several medical missions to Honduras and Haiti. The lessons learned from living and working in abject poverty were life changing. These experiences made a profound impact on Dr. Rinehardt’s medical philosophy. Despite almost no resources, the missioners still provided excellent medical care by working hard, sharing supplies, and the willingness to practice clinical medicine. Diagnoses and treatment plans were not made with high tech CT scans and MRIs.
