Dr. Richard Walter Schoewe, MD

Dr. Schoewe was able to solve a problem that I have had since I was 15 years old. Other clinics and doctors (including Rochester Mayo Clinic) overlooked my issue. He is thorough in his analysis and a wonderful listener. Above all, he created his own opinion based off of present information (ignoring outside influence) which led him to discover the source of my problem. Overall, I have experienced a major reduction in chronic pain. He has literally changed my life.

Dr. Schoewe is one of the many doctors left that actually care about his patients. He has over 40 year's of experience. The CMA that works in the office, Kate, is wonderful and very nice. Their clinic is prompt with answering and returning phone calls. I love how I only have to call and go through one person to get answers I need. They also offer online scheduling, lab results and electronic health records. Highly recommended.

I switched to Dr. Schoewe from a larger clinic because I wanted to go to a specialist that was not affiliated with my current clinic. I went to see Dr. Schoewe yesterday for the first time, for a very painful sciatic nerve. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to him. He has just one staff person, Linda, who handles the front desk and is his nurse. She is helpful and pleasant. I didn't have to wait at all to get into an exam room or for the doctor to arrive. The first thing he told me is that he had been there for 38 years and has never had a black mark on his record. I think this was meant to be a confidence-booster, but I did find it an odd way to introduce himself. He talked to me about my back, and was attentive to my medical history and complain. He did do a couple of manual tests for reflexes, etc. and did briefly examine the bulge next to my spine that is apparently causing all of the pain. He told me that I needed an x-ray and that I had to go across town to get one, and… wouldn't be able to get in until the next day because they close early. He would not give me a cortisone injection, and told me I had to go to see a specialist for that. I told him that I haven't been able to sleep for the extreme pain, but refused to prescribe anything for pain. In an aside note, I showed him my toenails, which have a fungal infection and the foot has athlete's foot. He said he will not prescribe Lamisil, and referred me to a dermatologist. He has me set up an appointment with him for Friday to go over the x-rays. My appointment with him was on Monday. That means a week of no sleep and extreme pain before he can even begin to tell what is wrong. And if he stays in the pattern I have seen, he will only refer me to someone else at that point. I changed clinics this morning, because I need a doctor that will take action and help me, not just shuffle papers at me and pass me off to others. It's no surprise that he has had no black marks against him -- he doesn't do any real treatment, from what I saw. Like I said, nice man, no results.
