Dr. Richard Mark Steinbook, MD

Dr. Richard Steinbook has worked on psychopharmacological studies since he was a medical student at the University of Florida in 1960, when he participated in an early Elavil trial, resulting in the paper Suggestibility and the Placebo response, as well as the extablishment of the APlacebo Washout@ procedure. He completed his residency training at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and while there worked on Lithium Carbonate prediction studies. In 1971, he joined the University of Miami faculty and the Symptomatic Volunteer study team as a project psychiatrist.

Since 1975, Dr. Steinbook has been the principal investigator on studies of second and third generation antipsychotics in the treatment of Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective disorders. He was site P.I. on both the CATIE and CAFE studies. Dr. Steinbook has been the Director of Psychiatric Education & Residency Training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine since 1975.
