Following graduation, Dr. Sweeney completed a General Practice Residency at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. As a resident, he trained extensively with special needs, geriatric, pediatric, and medically compromised populations.

As a skilled Chesapeake dentist, Dr. Sweeney believes in a conservative approach to dentistry. He is adamant about explaining all treatment options to patients and involving patients in every step of the treatment planning process. His goal as a Portsmouth dentist is to promote a fun and friendly, yet professional, environment.
Dr. Sweeney and his wife reside in Norfolk, Virginia with their two dogs Denver and Summer. They are currently expecting twins in the spring. In his spare time, Dr. Sweeney enjoys spending time with his wife and dogs, going to the gym, and learning something new every day!
