Summary
"At CTCA, the approach to the delivery of medical care is patient-oriented, and includes the patient in the entire process. CTCA is concerned about the person involved, not just the disease process that is being treated," says Dr. Richard Ticer, anesthesiologist at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Ticer earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Science in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He then completed an internship at Enid Memorial Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma.
After his internship, Dr. Ticer moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he completed a residency in anesthesia at Parkview Hospital. In the third year of his residency, he received the Educator of the Year Award. Following his residency, Dr. Ticer spent three years as a member of the hospital’s Department of Anesthesia.
In 1992, Dr. Ticer joined the Department of Anesthesia at Massillon Community Hospital in Massillon, Ohio, where he spent the next eight years. While there, he …served as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee from 1996 to 2000.
Dr. Ticer moved to Forth Smith, Arkansas in 2000. He spent 10 years working in the Department of Anesthesia at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, as well as at a private practice.
In 2008, Dr. Ticer began filling in occasionally at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center. Regarding his decision to join CTCA full-time in March 2010, Dr. Ticer says: "The personnel at CTCA are friendly and easy to work with. I really saw a difference in the approach of delivering medical care using a more holistic method, and trying to meet the many different needs of the patient."
He adds: "CTCA sees the patient’s physical, emotional and spiritual well-being as important. Also, the patient’s family and their needs are also important here and can have such an impact on the patient."
When asked what he enjoys most about working at CTCA, Dr. Ticer says: "I enjoy being part of a team approach to patient care. To be able to use your medical skills to help people, as well as to be able to freely pray with patients and be an encouragement to them, is such a great environment to work in."
He says his goal for patients is to "provide the best care possible, in the best environment possible, for the best result possible."
Dr. Ticer is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiology, the Arkansas Osteopathic Association, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
