Rishabh Nikhil Shah, MD, MBA, FACS, FASMBS

Dr. Rishabh Shah is board-certified general surgeon and bariatric surgeon who provides bariatric and general surgery consultation and follow-up care at CommonSpirit Medical Group - General Surgery and CommonSpirit Medical Group - Medical Weight Loss & Bariatric Surgery - Chattanooga. Dr. Shah earned his medical degree from University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed both his residency and fellowship in surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida, under the tutelage of one of the foremost authorities in minimally invasive advanced general and bariatric surgery. He joined CommonSpirit in 2020, coming back home to Chattanooga. His team treats obesity with an emphasis on helping patients overcome their disease through a combination of surgical and medical interventions. He also is a foregut specialist and treats reflux, hiatal hernia, and other complex diseases of the foregut of the GI tract. Dr. Shah's philosophy of care centers on building strong, respectful …relationships with his patients, tailoring treatment to their individual needs and goals. He views himself as an educator, empowering patients with the knowledge and tools to maintain their health after surgery. His desire to work with people, collaborate in a team setting, and utilize his hands, combined with a belief in the power of education, led him to a career in surgery. He chose to specialize in bariatric surgery due to the widespread issue of obesity and the opportunity to help patients transform their lives. In his free time, Dr. Shah enjoys cooking, racquet sports, puzzles, hiking, video games, and spending time with his wife, kids, parents, and friends.
