Dr. Robert Mayer Anders, MD

Dr. Anders discharged my elderly father from the ER with severe abdominal pain, a significantly elevated white count, and, per CT, severe mesenteric and ostial artery stenosis. While he has chronic a-fib and risk factors for a blood clot, he is an active pickle ball player without other significant past medical history. He NEVER complains of pain and he is opioid naive. I live in a different state and when I tried to discuss my concerns related to the severity of his pain and potential for ischemia on the phone, I was met with a dismissive attitude and “all tests were normal” when many of them were not. Dr. Anders discharged my dad with a prescription for muscle relaxers and a recommendation to come back if he felt worse. To no one’s surprise except maybe Dr. Anders, my dad’s symptoms worsened and not even 24 hours later, he is back in the same ER with a white blood cell count that has nearly DOUBLED from yesterday.

One star is one star too many for Dr. Robert Anders. He is rude, pompous and dismissive of his patients to say the least. Yesterday afternoon I had to take my 79 year old mother to the ER. She requested Roper Berkeley Day Hospital as it is only 2 miles from her home and she did not feel like making a long drive. We arrived at approximately 5:30 pm and was checked in immediately with STAT triage requested from the front counter. She was taken to the back immediately. Blood was drawn and an EKG was performed. My mother has a history of AFib, blood clots, and stroke. She presented with shortness of breath, weakness, numbness in her leg, back and neck pain as well as uncontrollable trembling. In addition, her blood pressure was extremely high to which nothing was even mentioned. Without any explanation from Dr. Anders, the nurse (Hailey--absolutely AWESOME) brought in an albuterol treatment. I asked why and she said Dr. Anders ordered it. Mom continued to have the trembling. When… I voiced my concerns to Nurse Hailey, she presented those concerns to Dr. Anders who blew it off to reaction to the Albuterol. I clearly stated prior to the Albuterol treatment that she had trembling that she has never presented with before. It was dismissed. Her blood work, although she has a heart and blood clot history, did not include a Troponin or D-Dimer test. She was taken for a basic chest x-ray which showed she had no fluid on her lungs. When he came back in to address the back pain she was in (quite excruciating) he asked her what she could take for pain. He proceeded to tell her he'd give her a muscle relaxer. She was given a Flexeril which really only made her sleepy. Less than 1 1/2 hours after arrival to the ER facility, our nurse came into the curtain area with discharge papers and prescriptions for Flexeril and Albuterol inhaler. I refused the discharge on behalf of my mother as she was clearly not feeling well and had something more going on than what Dr. Anders has taken the time to properly diagnose. I requested to see the oncoming doctor for the next shift. Dr. Carl Potts then came in to see my mother. He was most respectful and thorough. He ran more tests to include a urinalysis which returned a positive result for a bladder infection. He prescribed her an antibiotic to start at the hospital and continue taking at home. Dr. Anders was willing to dismiss my mother's ongoing infection and send her home. I am disgusted at the lack of care this man is permitted to continuously show his patients. He has been at this facility for many years and has always had this disposition. There is no place in an ER for a dismissive, pompous attitude. Patients go there because they are not feeling well, not because it is the "cool" place to hang out. I will be sure before I take my mom to this facility again, to call and see who is the doctor on duty. If it is Dr. Robert Anders, I will surely take her elsewhere for care. Roper Hospital is NOT represented well by him. Thank you to Dr. Carl Potts and Nurse Hailey for your care, concern and thoroughness for my mom.

I had the most horrible experience with Dr. Robert Anders in Moncks Corner SC. I recently visited the ER with multiple issues that needed to be addressed. After waiting for an hour, he finally made his unprofessional appearance. He was intimidating, and rude. He spent less than 5 minutes assessing me, and barely touched me. He has no bedside manner whatsoever. He simply ignored the fact my blood pressure was 190/112 upon arrival and 174/112 a few minutes before discharge. He let me walk out with a blood pressure that was at a dangerous level. His degrading comments, and uncompassionate behavior makes me rate him as the worst doctor that I have ever encountered! Beware!
