I am very healthy and in my 50s. I developed horrible abdominal pain on New Year's Day - about 15 minutes into it - and was shocked to be told that I needed to have my gall bladder removed immediately. I had no idea who Dr. Barbalinardo was, what his reputation was, etc. I did know I was at a hospital I trusted and I was in unbearable pain. I did not feel like I was in a position to "shop around" for another opinion for a procedure at a later date. I was born at this particular hospital, was cared for at one point by someone I grew up with, knew that the hospital is a part of a reputable system and that even with my high tolerance for pain, I would not be able to tolerate it for long. I was pleased with how I felt after the surgery and healed quickly. Further, Dr. Barbalinardo, it turned out, had performed surgery on my mother a number of years ago. We both agreed that we were pleased with the process and the outcomes.
