Dr Robert Wesley Benigar, MD

I came to be a patient of Dr. Benigar during an incredibly dark time in my life. My dad had just passed away and I was finishing up my last few sessions of ECT (electro convulsive therapy). Dr. Benigar was genuinely interested in my story, what I was struggling with, and how to get me the best treatment possible. He actually listened to me and asked questions that other doctors never did. He listened to my opinion when it came to the long list of medications I had tried and any other therapies that I felt worked and those I felt didn’t. It took a while to find the right combination of meds but we did because he truly listened to what I had to say and what I believed was best for me. After years of doctors treating me like just another problem that needed solving, Dr. Benigar made sure I felt heard and that my ideas and my concerns were valid. It took a while but ultimately we figured out what direction to go when it came to my treatment. This doctor saved my life. Dr. Benigar deserves… more than just 5 stars. He deserves the whole freakin’ sky!

I have been a patient of Dr. Benigar since 2008. He is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. The care for his patients comes across any time we meet. As a man, I find it very difficult to be vulnerable; however, never with him! I would recommend Dr. Benigar to anyone, man or woman. Not many out there like him!

I saw dr. benigar for almost 5 years at which time he was in private practice. He was wonderful. He seemed to genuinely care about me and my mental illness. I would have recommended him highly. Since he has left private practice and has joined Smart Wellness in far north plano he has lost my respect.After almost 5 years of seeing this dr. he has joined a glorified clinic. It's a meat market. My medication was changed and was uninformed. It was like he didn't remember what medications i was on and dosage. I went to the Smart Wellness only 3 months to see dr. benigar and was dropped by him after an altercation I had with another staff member. I could hear him next door and he didn't intervene. Rather I was terminated as his patient. This was the 1st altercation I had with his staff in all the years. The front office staff at Smart Wellness is rude and seem not to care. I miss seeing dr. benigar but I don't miss Smart Wellness. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody and unfortunately I… wouldn't recommend dr. benigar as long as he's working there. I would however try to find him if he left Smart Wellness and went back into private practice which I hope is soon.

Dr.Benigar is one of the best in the industry! While he is not a therapist, he listened actively to all my problems. He really cares about my condition and is willing to listen to me ramble about bout how i feel for 30 mins. He is caring and puts patient's perspective and thought first. I have had doctors who imposes his view on mine. He is opposite! he listens and tries to see the world in my shoes! I wish i had found him earlier. He is very intelligent, caring and understanding! i will go back to him again and again.

Had a very good experience with Dr. Benigar and his staff. While it took a while to get in because he is in demand, there was no wait on the day of the appointment. He listened intently, interviewed extensively, and cared about delivering high-quality care. Couldn't have asked for me. His office has good online tools. A great experience overall.

On star is too generous. I've worked with many mental healthcare providers and Dr. Benigar is the second to the worst I've ever worked with. He doesn't have time for his patients. He doesn't do what he says he will do. He doesn't explain his diagnosis. He's arrogant and incompetent.

After meeting Robert and two days of observation, he fully diagnosed my issues and on the same day I was able to start sleeping nine and ten hours. The main issue was major depressive disorder and anxiety and both were treated with medication and his in house therapist and cognitive behavioral therapy. I have been seeing him since 2010 and am thrilled. His bedside manner and sense of care are complimented by listening and observing. +++ for online tools. He is my hero!

This doctor literally saved my life, twice in 5 years. He is very compassionate, knowledgeable and respectful. Handles hospital and office situations quite professionally and is not dismissive at all. Hard to get into because he is so busy, but well worth the wait!
