Dr. Robert G. Carpenter, MD

I was referred to Dr Carpenter from my primary who wanted me to see a rheumatologist. First off he is not a rheumatologist I don't know how else to say it other then he is masquerading as one. He has zero credentials to claim he is one either. Not board certified in the area nothing. I saw him for muscular problems in my back and extreme muscle stiffness. He preceded to tell me more about his biking then actually listening to me. In the end he seemed confused and referred me to a neurologist. Who in turn referred me to Maine medical to a board certified rheumatologist. I was probably diagnosed at that point with ankylosing spondylitis. Stay away!!!

Dr. Carpenter was my doctor for many years before he moved out to Maine. He was an outstanding MD who was very personable in the greatest way. I normally only seen him during my annual physical but he seemed to remember me like I was there the day before. He was a great listener and explained any medical issues I had very well. Terrific doctor and I believe an exceptional person.

Dr. Carpenter goes above and beyond what I would expect from any doctor. He is personable, polite, caring, bright, and gives you all the time needed. He is very quick to respond. His staff is equally as wonderful. When I was battling cancer, he would check with my wife who was in Taiwan when I was diagnosed. He made one call late on a Friday night to accommodate the 12 hour time difference.

Dr Carpenter is easy to talk to, and has an overall health approach to his patients care. He is insightful and has a bedside manner that is unmatched in my own personal experience. There are doctors and then there are those doctors who care, above and beyond as Dr Carpenter. He is warm and caring. You are in good hands if it's Dr Carpenter.

I made a full complaint in 2013 against Dr. Carpenter after the rudest statement I have ever heard a doctor say. I began seeing Dr. Carpenter after my former doctor left SMHC. I advised Dr. Carpenter I was pregnant after the Depo shot failed to work and I wanted to be weened off a pain medicine called Ultram after being on it for 3 years. This med was quite difficult to come off easily so he started taking me off it. After telling him my lower back and hips were in a large amount of pain and asking if there were any safe pain alternatives while I was pregnant he made a very quick and hurtful comment. He said my child will be born with no IQ if I take anything for pain while pregnant. I was quite shocked and upset by that statement which he told me in front of my 4 year old and fiance at the time. Well guess what? My obgyn said that certain pain medicines are OK to take periodicly during pregnancy if monitored and not abused. I never saw Carpenter after that appointment when he said… that and my formal complaint was addressed to him by SMHC. And guess what even though my son had to be born 7 weeks early due to my heart and blood pressure complications he most definitely has an IQ and began speaking early amongst other early milestones that he began even before his brother who was at full term. Disrespectful and a very snobbish man. Do not suggest him to anyone and actually received an apology from not him but a former doctor of the same practice.

If you want a caring, highly intelligent & knowledgeable doctor who is down to earth then search no further. Dr Carpenter makes you feel better even if you're still on the mend. He is the rare one in a million doctor everyone wants. Sure... you may wait for him but when it's your turn you don't feel rushed. I highly recommend Dr Carpenter!

Most personally down earth visits and enjoyed meeting with him regardless of diagnosis.

Dr. Carpenter has been my Dr. for over 10 years. I see him for my RA, I have receivedexcellent care. The waiting time for a visit can be maddening, however, I will say he is never rushed when your are the patient.

Doctor Carpenter is an amazing,caring,professional with great follow up. He even called me ona holiday with my test results. Truly oneof the best!!

After 8 months of deteriorating muscle strength, increasing pain, inability to stand, walk, lift I found Dr. Carpenter. I had several different treatments attempted by other doctors that had no effect. Many times there were tests I needed that were tough to schedule. When I first saw Dr. Carpenter, he became my instant advocate. From site and my list of symptoms and family history he knew what was wrong. He set up every test I needed with utmost urgency. Treatment began aggressively and immediately. Dr. Carpenter has been my primary care physician for 5.5 years and I won't trade him for a soul.
