Dr. Robert P Castellucci, MD

I saw Dr. Castellucci yesterday for the first time. He is the most pleasant and approachable doctor. He takes time to talk to you, (not AT you) and he listens! I am very happy that I went to him. I did have to wait to see him, but he is the only physician in the practice and he doesn't rush through your appointment, so I certainly didn't mind the wait! Totally worth it to have someone explain things and listen to what you have to say!

Every time I go there need to wait at least for an hour to meet the doctor. Not sure how their appointment works, but they call the patient inside and make them sit inside the room. Today I was there again with my 15 months daughter and it was horrible, my husband lost his patience after an argument we returned. Now looking for a new doctor office. I would never recommend this Endocrinology to anyone.

My father has been a patient of Dr. Castellucci for years. My father has diabetes and now advanced Alzheimer’s. My mother struggles to manage all of his appointments and daily needs and it is a lot. My parents are kind people and do their best to follow the rules. My mother has tried on several occasions to schedule an appointment for my father as his prescription for insulin was running out. In more than one occasion she was unable to schedule due to the doctors office computer system being down. The pharmacy attempted to contact Dr. Castellucci’s office for renewal however never receive a response. Yesterday, my mother called the office and requested a one time refill for his insulin until they could see my father. She was told they would ask. Several hours later she called again and was told they had not heard anything. When she asked what she was supposed to do, they suggested she could take him to Patient First. Hours later she went to the office to get it straight and was greeted… rudely by the office staff and told the Doctor was busy. My mother stays flustered these days, understandably. She gestured and knocked over a cup of pens which she promptly picked up and apologized for. Immediately following, Dr. Castellucci emerged from around the corner, yelled at my mother that he would give her one insulin pen but that she was never to return to his office. My mother was stunned and shaken. She turned to leave and said the door slammed behind her. As she and my father, who was waiting in the car, pulled out to leave, Dr. Castellucci ran out, handed her the prescription and continued to yell at her to never step foot on that property again. All of this in front of my father who was confused and very upset by it. In my absolute wildest imagination, I can not imagine anything that my mother could have done that would have prompted such an irate and irrational, nevermind completely unprofessional, response from a Doctor. I work in healthcare and over the years have had negative experiences with people, but have never once found it acceptable to react in such a horrible way. My mother was not asking for narcotics. She was asking for insulin and an appointment. My mother is a sweet woman and 24 hours later is still shaken and confused by what occurred yesterday. All I can say is unless she entered that office and started ripping things off the walls, I can not imagine what kind of professional, what kind of doctor, what kind of human being, thinks that behavior and response are acceptable. My family is in shock.

The absolute best endocrine doc in the Richmond, VA area

I have been seeing Dr. Castelluci for 2 years now for thyroid issues. His bedside manner is arrogant and he is not interested in what the patient has to say. He is not up to date in his field and is not interested in growing by hearing different opinions. My wait time in the office was 3 hours and when he did come in the office he offered no apology for being late. When I asked about lab tests (more than just the normal TSH and T4, he shot me down. I immediately requested my medical records and excused myself from his pratice. "Worst experience I have ever had with a doctor".

Having had diabetes for almost 40 years, I know what to look for in a doctor and his/her staff. When I lived in Richmond, I appreciated Dr. Castellucci's attention to my diabetes, and I had nothing but the highest praise for his nurse practitioners.

Dr. Castellucci is pleasant, but doesn't seem to remember or care who his patients are, what their diagnosis is, what their symptoms are or any new research in the field of endocrinology in the last 20 years. He just wants to chat & give you drugs & send you on your way.

Dr Castellucci has been treating my son's thyroid conditions for several years. He has always been very responsive and takes the time to discuss any changes or concerns with us.

My experience was really Horrible...We had to wait more than 1 hour in office.As I had a miscarriage and my OBG recommended to go to a Endocrinologist as my THS level was high.But the DR.did not evaluate me well and just gave me one medicine.When I showed my concern about my future pregnancy,he said like Hypothyroidism is a normal problem these days... People go to a Doctor with lots of hope but he is just a hopeless fellow...

He is a great doctor, but more importantly he cares and he wants to solve your sugar problems.
