Summary
Dr. Chevalier earned his MD at the University of Chicago, followed by training in pediatrics and nephrology at the University of North Carolina and University of Colorado. He joined the faculty at UVA in 1978, establishing the Division of Pediatric Nephrology, which has grown to become one of the most highly-regarded in the country. His research interests are focused on the development of birth defects of the kidneys and urinary tract, which are the primary cause of kidney failure in infants and children. After serving as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for over 14 years, Dr. Chevalier has returned to his laboratory to concentrate on his studies of obstructive nephropathy.
