Dr. Robert Bruce Donoff, MD

In the late 80's I had dislocated my jaw shut. Doctors in my area told me there was nothing they could do and actually told me it was the opposite side that was displaced.(they read the x-ray wrong) Went to another oral surgeon who put me under to get my jaw to open and after that procedure he told me that it felt like the meniscus on the right side was not doing its job. He told me the best doctor for the job was Dr. Donoff in Boston. Well had my appointment and all was explained, could lose feeling in my face, might have to have future surgeries, and opening my mouth as wide as before might be very hard and I needed to not push it. I was ready, I couldn't function with the pain and eating was well, baby food. I had my surgery, and just a few short weeks I was pretty much back to normal, didn't lose feeling, sure cannot open my mouth real wide, but I can eat and talk with out pain.. Every now and again the jaw snaps and I wait to see and I am fine. 30 plus years later I am still… doing great, thanks to Dr. Donoff's surgery. I am very pleased with my results!!!

In mid 1980’s, I went to Dr. Donoff for an oral surgery on my jaw. I had been in an automobile collision resulting in a broken jaw. After 8 weeks of having my jaw wired shut, I found my joints had fused & I only had a 12 mm opening with the help of PT. I was referred to Dr. Donoff by my maxillofacial oral surgeon. He was confident that he could created pseudo joints & open my mouth. Said he had done thousands of these surgeries. After his surgery. I had facial deformity & now my mouth would not shut. He had put a few wires to attempt to hold my mother shut, but the wires were just pulling my top bicuspids down like fangs! When I went back for a follow up with Dr. Donoff, he originally told me it was my fault & proposed that he file down the back molars & that would solve my open mouth problem. Again, he took no responsibility for the bad results. I did not have him shave down my back molars. I left his office & he followed me out to his waiting room & yelled at me in… front of other patients. I made an appointment with my original oral surgeon. This doctor was in shock when he saw how I looked. He told me that he never saw such bad results from such a surgery & said that shaving the molars was not a viable solution. After this, I had to have 2 other surgeries to get my jaw to close & to give me a bit of a chin, which I lost after Dr. Donoff’s surgery. (Dr. Donoff also dinged a facial nerve, resulting in permanent numbness of my chin & lower lip. This I knew was something that might happen.) I should have filed a malpractice suit, but was so mentally distraught, I couldn’t do it.
