Dr. Robert Charles Flanigan, MD

After several tries with other physicians, I visited Dr. Flanigan to treat my prostate cancer. There was no comparison. Dr. Flanigan stood weel above the other physicians.

Dr Falnigan is very rapid with his assessments and relies on the residents to do full assessment. Hence teaching hospital. You do not get the personal attention a community hospital would give you but the trade off is the expertise of an expert. It is extremly difficult to make an appointment with Dr Flanigan and it is even harder when you have problems post-op to get hold of him. At Loyola you are a number not a person the teaching hospital system is not a pleasant experience.

Dr Flanigan is very competent, skilled and well known. Yet a recent CT scan of kidney he had not examined prior to appointment. He had examined an ultrasound. He ordered another CT scan in six months. A second opinion with a urologist who took the time to actually examine the CT indicated that an ultrasound would be sufficient in a year. Recently upon examination, he failed to do a digital rectal exam because a resident did it prior to his entering the room. I asked Dr Flanigan if he would as the physician in charge of my care. He did comply. Dr Flanigan generally is very rapid in his engagement with patients that it can be difficult to get a question in. He will respond to questions but is generally not spending enough time with is patients in preparing for their visit and during. He is nice, very skilled but as chair of his dept. and an officer in organisations, I think his temp is not conducive to superior medical care at Loyola in Maywood.
