Dr. Robert Fortino, is a board-certified internal medicine physician who has focused on physician-supervised medical weight loss and metabolic health for nearly 30 years. He founded one of the Philadelphia region's first medical weight loss practices and serves as its medical director, with offices in South Philadelphia and Turnersville (Washington Township), New Jersey.
As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Fortino brings whole-person training to every patient evaluation. He treats obesity as a chronic metabolic condition, not a willpower problem. As a result, his care looks at how metabolism, lean muscle, lifestyle and medical history work together to shape long-term health.
Dr. Fortino also serves as a Lt. Col. and flight surgeon with the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard, where he has served since 2001. As a flight surgeon, he supports …aircrew medical readiness, human performance and preventive health. He applies the same principles in his practice: protect lean muscle, build strength and plan for health that lasts. Outside of medicine, he has strength trained and powerlifted for 40 years.

Dr. Fortino believes medication is one tool among many, not the whole plan. He and his clinical team start GLP-1 medications at a low dose and adjust gradually to find the lowest effective dose, based on each patient's tolerance and progress. Throughout treatment, they manage side effects proactively, protect lean muscle and plan for maintenance from the first visit. Patients also get a clear exit strategy if they want to come off medication.
Every plan is tailored to the patient and guided by in-person evaluations, body composition results and lab work when needed. Whether a patient wants to lose fat, gain strength and energy or improve metabolic health, Dr. Fortino offers experienced, evidence-based and nonjudgmental care built around a long-term doctor-patient relationship.
