Dr. Robert M. Friedlander is a Harvard Medical School-trained neurosurgeon specializing in adult Chiari malformation and complex cranial neurosurgery. He has performed approximately 700 Chiari operations, including complex and revision cases, and has evaluated thousands of patients with Chiari malformation. He is the sole author of the 2024 New England Journal of Medicine review, Congenital and Acquired Chiari Syndrome. Previously Vice Chair of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School and Chair of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh for over 15 years, Dr. Friedlander is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. He now focuses on individualized patient care through the ISS Neurologic Institute and Friedlander Chiari Center in New York.
