Dr. Robert Bruce Genzel, MD

I have seen this physician twice in the emergency room for severe pelvic pain related to my diagnosed endometriosis, and both experiences were extremely disappointing. During my visits, I felt that my symptoms and pain were dismissed rather than thoroughly evaluated. The physician repeatedly commented on how many times I had been to the emergency room, despite the fact that my visits have been for the same ongoing condition. Instead of focusing on my current symptoms and level of pain, I felt judged for seeking medical care. I was also told that it was unlikely I had endometriosis, despite having previously been diagnosed. The physician stated that he reviewed my surgical records and did not see evidence of endometriosis, even though he is not an OB-GYN specialist. This left me feeling that my medical history and prior diagnoses were being questioned without appropriate expertise. Additionally, I was repeatedly told that “nothing has ever been found” during my previous evaluations,… which did not accurately reflect my understanding of my medical history. I felt discouraged from asking questions or seeking further evaluation, and it seemed that additional testing was dismissed before my concerns were fully addressed. One of the most difficult aspects of living with endometriosis is that it is often an invisible illness. Many patients already fear that their pain will not be taken seriously. Unfortunately, this visit reinforced that fear. I left the emergency room still in significant pain, feeling unheard, embarrassed, and emotionally distressed. Every patient deserves to be treated with compassion, respect, and an open mind, regardless of how many times they have sought care. My experience left me feeling as though my pain was minimized rather than addressed.

Do I have to give a rating? Because my rating is “no stars”. My daughter’s best friend has been dealing with many scary symptoms for at least a couple of months. High escalating heart rate, and low heart rate with no known cause. She’s been in the ER multiple times. Dr. Genzel treated this poor 20 year old terribly. He told her there was nothing wrong with her heart and then said “You know, you really don’t need to keep coming back to the ER. You’re fine.” He was rude, uncaring and we are confused as to what his actual purpose is… certainly not giving excellent medical care. He didn’t even deliver the bare minimum care. 2 days later she continued to have issues and passed out several times as a good friend drove her to the hospital. She has now not only been admitted, she has had a whole host of tests performed, including a brain scan with contrast. CLEARLY she’s not ok, and I am beyond concerned about the level of care this “doctor” provided.

Compassionate and very understanding of my situation... I wish he was my primary care dr. In fact I've seen him twice and was pleased both times. I am a breast cancer survivor and he was the one to tell me that I was expecting a baby. I was floored by the news but for that right there he holds a special place!
