Dr. Robert Goldstein, MD

Excellent experience with him and his team

I have recently visited Dr. Goldstein, two times post successful oblation for liver cancer. The oblation was done by Dr. Peter Kim, who unfortunately has since moved to Canada. Dr. Kim spoke with me about liver transplant and seemed to think that I would be a good candidate for transplant. Dr. Goldstein seems to think other wise due to other health problems. He told me to improve my health and we would consider putting me on the transplant list. My health has improved drastically, but he continues to deny me even the possibility to be placed on the transplant list and even went as far as to tell me that it's his responsibility to the donor families to pick only the best possible recipient. I'm wondering how he knows by just looking that I'm not worthy of a chance to live. He was very gruff during the entire conversation and told me several times that I'd probably just die on the table. He also was very sarcastic and told me that I could live possibly even thirty years without a… transplant even though I've been told that my life expectancy is 0 to 1and one half years. Evidently he thinks that's suppose to be funny to someone who is dying. I'm sure my husband and 13 yr old son found it hilarious. I'm not sure how old he is, but he didn't look that young to me. I wonder if he would be worthy of a liver if he needed one or if he'd be considered too old or unfit if he had a heart problem. I resented being considered less valuable than someone who's life is unfortunately over and can't be helped. One of my sons died in an automobile accident and was found too late for any of his organs to be donated, but even in my sorrow, I would have been happy if one of his organs could have helped someone else live even if the donation failed, at least we would have tried. So, having been in that position, I feel that I have a better understanding about it than he does. I felt insulted and that I was just being brushed off Even if he found me suitable for transplant now, I doubt that one could be found in time and I don't think that I would want someone like Dr. Goldstein doing surgery on me. I'll take my chances with prayer. I should also tell you tell you that no, I don't drink alcohol, take medications that have not been prescribed for me or smoke. I've been married to the same man for 42 yrs, raised three sons and am currently raising my youngest grandson, who my husband and I adopted as an infant. When the cancer was found I was told that I would have a team of liver specialist working together to determine the best way to rid my body of the cancer and make the determination if a transplant would be necessary. I felt so good that a team of doctors would be taking care of me. Two of the team members, Dr. Orr and Dr. Goldstein have since then asked me several time who the other members of the team are! That good feeling is gone. I would think more than once or twice before going to either one of them. Dr. Orr sounds like Dr. Goldstein's parrot and does a great impersonation of him. Awesome Doctor, if he had not stepped in I don't know that I would be here

He saved my mother's life. Other doctors had told her that her liver tumor was inoperable. He successfully removed it and has given her new hope in beating cancer. He is wonderful!!

He was great with communicating the problem, what he was going to do and the prognosis after surgery. Jane (his nurse) was awesome! She responded promptly to any questions or concerns I had. I had reconstructive biliary duct repair with a good outcome.

The worlds,leading surgeon is awsome in surgery, post surger, and office vistis have had him as my Doctor for more than 10 years, and what ever He tells me is what I do. You con not finda more compant and feeling care from any other Doctor in the world.

Personable/logical/caring/believes all things are possible,,very positive with his patients

He is very personable, spent a lot of time with us, didn't act like he had anything else to do but care for me and answer our questions. Now for the surgery...
