Dr. Robert Grunsten, MD

I feel so fortunate to have such an amazing doctor in my life. Dr. Robert Grunsten not only is the most professional doctor I've ever had and having so many psychiatrists throughout my life Dr. Grunsten is the ONLY psychiatrists I've ever had that actually genuinely CARES and LISTENS! I highly recommend if you are in need of help and need a REAL DOCTOR reach out to Dr. Robert Grunsten.

I read Dr. Grunsten's wonderful reviews on Yelp and decided to make an appointment with him. I was so impressed how fast he got back to me and communicated very clearly about the reason for my visit. He uses text messages to converse and I love that. I would assume he is very quick at getting back to his clients from what I have experienced. Most importantly, he is one of the funniest, kindest doctors and obviously has a lot of knowledge in his field. After having a bad experience I was honestly terrified to seek out a new doctor. After Dr. G fit me in as quick as he could (with in two days), I had my appointment. He spent a lot of time going over everything that was pertinent to my situation and actually made me laugh a lot with his jokes that are actually really funny. He has a great energy and is caring and kind. I don't think I have ever had a doctor with a better bedside manner.

I just want to say I have not now nor ever had an issue getting in contact with Dr G (I've been emailing him this morning with multiple responses already). His scheduling has never been an issue if I give him a block of time he ALWAYS is happy to get me on the books! His knowledge and skill set impresses me to this day and he is always sharing alternative medicine if my ADHD meds need adjusting. He doesn't treat you like a criminal when certain meds lose their zing he allows honest communication and even shares when medication has been recalled and has discount prescription cards on deck for us and his office is connected to the parking lot of Walgreens! Cannot tell you how many times he has helped me overcome obstacle and setback life has thrown my way. He continues to advocate for my best interest and was instrumental in my ability to change careers and deal with all the feelings that come with more rejection than acceptance. If it were for him I wouldn't have been mentally fit to… endure the upheaval that is associated with career change. All of that and at every session the cherry on top is the Tech Magazine he lets me check out and his award winning jokes. I am sorry if you did not have anything but an epic adventure, because my visits continue to be stellar across the board! Thank you DR. G

Dr. Grunsten is kind, listens to my concerns, responds to my messages quickly and is overall a very professional psychiatrist. He's been helping me for years.

Knowledgeable; however lacks severely in responding to client's needs once they have left his office.

I had one appointment with this physician so far. When I arrived, he did not have my appointment listed and asked if we just texted a few minutes ago. I said "no, we confirmed 3 weeks ago". He had no knowledge. I showed him our text confirmation. He asked me two more times when we confirmed! He wasn't even listening. He said he had many messages in the last day and was also out of town. I repeated myself several times that we scheduled several weeks before. He said his new calendar wiped out some appointments. Luckily, his patient didn't arrive and he saw me for about 5 minutes or so. He did not ask for my history even though I tried to tell him as much as I could quickly while I showed him the bottle of what medication I was taking that needed a refill. He told me he would get my history next appointment. He wrote me a prescription and scheduled me for 3 months later. Later that day I got a text asking for some more information. I called and provided it. Two days later… I received another text asking if he could clarify the purpose of the med I was taking. I had to tell him again what I was taking and why...not sure he even took note of it the first time. Rushed, disorganized, and unprofessional from first impressions. Maybe this will improve and was a fluke? Not a good start though.

I'd definitely recommend Dr. G. He's very caring and has helped me figure out how to control my "problems".

My overall experience with Dr. Grunsten is that he has competence in understanding certain medications, dosages and side affects but aside from that do not expect any consultation on issues. He will readily prescribe and advise on medication but that is the extent of his treatment. He also limits his appointments to usually less than 10 minutes. He does not express any empathy, and/or affinity for you. I have had no luck establishing rapport, nor does he seem to have any interest in any thing regarding medication therapy. I am understanding from my current PhD Therapist that Psychiatry as a practice usually is confined to "medication management". In this case I would say Dr. Grunsten performs this task. But don't expect more.

This doctor has absolutely no bedside manner! My appts with him (to get refills of medications) last less than 5 minutes, and he seems more concerned with obtaining payment than with my actual health and well-being.
