Dr. Robert Charles Heim JR., MD

I went to see Dr. Heim years ago due to cervical spine issues, when the head of neurosurgery from another prominent hospital had refused to treat me a year prior. Dr. Heim was caring and thorough and my surgery went amazingly well. Even after all these years I am getting around with no issues thanks to him!

He did my neck surgery about four years ago and did a fine job. Released from the hospital in less than 24 hours. My wife called him the first night I was home about my severe pain. He asked her " what do you expect me to do about it" ? He added, if the pain is bad go to the emergency room. We did and I was readmitted to the hospital. He released me after my six month checkup with NO follow up. I would never use him again.

In late 2013, Dr. Heim after reviewing my MRI concluded surgery was necessary to stop my pain. I was unable to stand up straight without horrible pain. After surgery I was able to stand and after about 3 weeks able to return to work with limited lifting. He is a very good surgeon. No nonsense. He was recommended to me by my wife's Uncle who is an anesthesiologist at St. Lukes and I trust his judgement because he watches all these guys work. Wouldn't go to anyone else.

Dr. Heim did surgery on my back. He is a no nonsense doctor who doesn't like to answer a lot of questions but gets right to the fact and move on. Do I wish he would have been a little patient with my concerns before surgery? Probably, but he did an excellent job as my surgeon and I am on my road to recovery. My follow up visit will probably be the same way. i don't care. I am not looking for a friend but I needed an excellent surgeon and he is that so I am just fine with Dr. Heim as my surgeon.

Compassionate, easy to talk to

Good results from back surgery but bed side manner leaves a lot to be disired. Condescending attitude pompous. Likes to talk but doesn't like to listen

I would not recommend dr.heim not at all because he was so arrogant to me the patient not only that to my wife and daughter too,after my surgery on c-4-5-6 in my neck he did even come to my room to see me and I was in horrible pain the nurses had to call him but couldn't get any information what to do.so they kept giving me different types of medicine to try and bring my pain down but couldn't so final I said I can go home and put up with this pain instead of being in here so they finally got a hold of him and he said if he can get up and walk he can go home so I made myself get up and walk and went home and wasn't told that I had to wear a neck brace for the firs 2weeks all iwas told to wear my neck brace once in awhile then I finally called them because I was in so much pain to see if I could get some relief and that's when they asked are u wearing your neck brace all the time I said no because I was told to wear it once in awhile then when I went back too see him he said I don't… really care about your pain idid my job and kept you walking which I am very grateful for but I would never let him touch me again and my wife was a witness to all of this and she feels the same way ,we have never met any dr. like him to be so arrogant and I guess he thinks he is god!!!!!! or something I think he would be a great dr. if he knew how to treat people with a little common courtesy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck if you ever choose him I give him a hlf of a star and then I am just being courteous.

I have only met with Dr. Heim once, simply because my regular neurosurgeon was not on call. Dr. Heim came in like a tornado, basically yelled at me because he thought I was wrong in my concern, that there was nothing wrong with me. I promptly told him I would like to stay in the hospital until I could see my regular neurosurgeon the next day. Upon seeing him, my concerns were confirmed, there really was something wrong. Bottom line: the guy is a bully, has no bedside manner and I will never see him again, no matter the circumstances.

He was my 2nd opinion from an otrho who said I needed fusion c5-c6. Heim suggested I have a dysectomy (less invasive)& now not 4 weeks later (as I had spinal compression). 19 mon post op I am doing very well minor nerve pain (will have always due to damage from rupture and compression) he is a litte rude, dry and not the least bit warm (limited bedside skills)-- however I am in such better shape... Yah!!!
