Dr. Robert Herman

Dr. Herman has one diagnosis: Bipolar. Went once. He didn't read my intake. Showed me a video on bipolar disorder (his theory is that everyone is bipolar, somewhere on the spectrum), and actually put that diagnosis in my chart, though I never returned (and will not respond to emails to remove it). I've read, now, many reviews of folks who allege similar experiences, some who allege significant ill-mental health as a result. My recommendation: stay away. Find someone else.

For a man that is supposed to help people with anxiety he causes it! He is rude, arrogant, belittling, and is more concerned about money than your well being. Stay away!!

This doctor rarely asks me questions about my well-being during his short appointment in which he updates me about his plans to retire. His prescription of lithium is rarely reviewed or updated and I am definitely going to see a more professional and truly responsible doctor.

My teenage daughter saw Dr. Herman a few times but overall it was his arrogant attitude that caused us to cease her appointments with him which was a mutual decision amongst my husband, our daughter and I. He was very belittling towards our daughter, my husband and I. At her last visit, he prescribed her a medication that I am currently prescribed for epilepsy and one that I have been on for few years. Since I’ve been on the medicine, I’m well aware of the side effects and while he was going over them, I mentioned one of the serious side effects. Once I had mentioned it, Dr. Herman stopped talking, sighed and appeared to be irritated. He then said to me I was getting ready to tell you about that in a firm tone. That was it for us. I can tell Dr. Herman is a very intelligent man but his arrogance makes it very hard to deal with him. My husband, our teenage daughter and I all felt the same way about him in reference to how he comes off very arrogantly at all of our daughter’s… appointments.

I have been seeing Dr Herman for a year and I have not had any negative experiences with him. The older reviews talk about wait times, which now there are none. I have been in his office with 5 - 10 minutes of my appointment. My initial visit with the assessment was very thorough and his recommendations for medicine have worked out perfectly. He’s not a therapist, he’s a psychiatrist. He’s there to help you find the right medications for you to have a productive life. If they don’t work, then you tell him and try something different. He does ask what meds you are on, but it’s to get you verify what you are taking. I wouldn’t be offended if he doesn’t remember. He has many patients. He’s a little quirky, but I find him to be a nice person. Not condescending or rude. I feel possibly the years have taught him something in that area.

Today, my friend told me about Dr. Herman. I was considering finding a new dr. for my daughter's bipolar. I thought his name sounded familiar so I just looked him up. Turns out I saw him back in 2006. I saw him for my OCD. During my first appt with this guy, I noticed his office was a disaster and then after I told him why I was there, he sat a laptop next to me and had me Google OCD! I see he has not changed and I can't believe he is still in practice. A dr??? I doubt it. I'll stick with my daughter's current psychiatrist and pay the out-of-network price. I wouldn't take my dog to Dr. Herman.

I knew more about him than he did about me. That's not a good sign.

Dr. Herman has been a life saver for me. His expertise and knowledge knew the right diagnosis and medications to prescribe to allow me to live my life to the fullest. I can never thank him enough.
