He laughs at chronically ill patients, instead of treating them like real people.

My son was having a croup attack while we were driving home late at night on the I-5 freeway. His airway was closing and he needed treatment immediately. We called 911 and were brought into the emergency room where Dr. Hook was assigned to us. My son had had over 9 of these attacks and we work closely with a pulmonologist for his treatment. At the emergency room it is protocol to give a steroid for an attack like this but our son has had so much of it over the course of the year our pulmonologist recommended that we try other medications first. When we asked about this. We were shut down by Dr. Hook with a condescending speech on croup. When we asked for some time to think about it he said that if we didn’t he would see us in 24 hours because we would inevitably be back. When we decided to go with the steroid because of the distance we had to drive home it took 50 minutes to administer the meds. When he came in and check him and hour later we expressed some concerns about how he… wouldn’t keep the cool mist humidifier on his face and in the middle of our sentence he took a phone call and just said, “we have to continue with it.” Our son was still laboring to breath when he said we could go home. My husband is a doctor and we are very familiar with our sons condition. But he didn’t care. He just wanted to get us discharged and out. I don’t feel he had our sons best interest in mind and treated us like we were stupid. I will always be grateful to those medical professionals who treat my children. I have so much respect for the field, but I never think a doctor should treat parents that way.
