Dr. Robert Bruce Kiningham, MD

I waited quite some time to post this review. I am not into bashing anyone but this guy sucks and had caused me to lose faith in the medical profession. Prior to my visit, I enjoyed great health and hadn't been to a doctor in years. I was looking for an in-network primary care physician into sports medicine, I thought he'd be a good fit. Not. Well, he walks into the exam room with a prescription pad and pen in hand and shadowed by his intern. His intern listened better to me than he did. Then, during the visit I mentioned a few concerns I wanted him to look at and he told me I could only discuss one issue per visit! I thought you have got to be kidding me, first visit for a primary care relationship and he didn't want to take a couple minutes to get an overview! He just didn't seem to want to listen nor did he genuinely seem to care. He was very dismissive. I felt like he wanted to write a prescription and send me on my way. I couldn't wait to get out of there. He had me… schedule a follow-up visit and I stiffed him. Such a waste of my time. I left the Michigan Medicine health system entirely because of him. There is a valid reason he gets so many poor reviews. Avoid this doctor, you can do better.

I have found him to be thoughtful, comprehensive and accurate in his diagnoses. He does listen and despond directly to questions and concerns. He has been my primary care doc for a number of years and is excellent.

Very dismissive and arrogant

There is a reason why there are always appointments available to see Dr. Kiningham. He stinks and he is extremely rude! Four years ago, I hurt my knee during Martial Arts class. At the time, he was my regular doctor. My knee was giving out and I could barely bend it all the way. He basically told me that it was a bad sprain and that it was fine. He ordered x-rays, but that's it. I went back to him at least 2 other times asking for an MRI and that I believe there was something seriously wrong with my knee. After about 3 visits, he finally let me have one. And go figure, I "completely" tore my ACL. He called me up to apologize for not knowing. I later googled my symptoms. I probably could have diagnosed my own knee better than him!And just recently, I had my daughter see him for an ankle injury that has been prolonged. In our appointment, he said that if the x-ray doesn't show anything, that she may need either an MRI or a Cat Scan. I asked him which one would be the better… one to get for her case. His response was....."I'm not going to suggest the one that's not the best option." What a jerk! He does not know how to communicate with patients. I agree with others that all he is interested in is a paycheck. He does not have one caring bone in his body for his patients.

He is an extremely lazy and arrogant man that is truly interested only in his paycheck and not in any patient needs. He doesn't listen to his patients, he belittles his staff and nurses in front of the patient, and he just breezes in and breezes out of the room, barely even looking at his patient in the eye. He has lied to me and been outright offensive. I had a recent blood clot and was taking birth control pills at the time for endometriosis reasons, but he didn't take the time to read any of my medical history and told me that "I need to stop taking the birth control pills and find some other way to not get pregnant". Didnt' appreciate that comment at all. I always wait for him for over a half hour to get in the room and there always seems to be total chaos following him because he gets the staff so confused and frustrated. The nurses are kind at the office but many of the "check-out" staff are also lazy and unkind. Good luck with Dr. Kiningham following up on ANYTHING! He wouldn't… respond to my phone messages about my blood clot and I ended up in the ER again.

Like another reviewer, I was seen first by a D.O. "Fellow" (who was great, by the way). He spent a good amount of time *listening* to me. He performed several manual tests based on my symptoms. Then in walks Dr. Kiningham. He spoke toward me, but not really *to me*. I felt like he was in some kind of autistic fog of general unawareness. Bedside manner was non-existent, as were his listening skills. None of his responses to me were based upon what I said to him. His version of manual tests felt to me like they were hurried, and he had little to ask me about my specific symptoms, as if he didn't really need to know. I wanted to ask the D.O., who was in there with both of us, "You're kidding, right? This guy's not really my doctor, is he?" If nothing else, he just didn't come off as caring about the patient he was seeing.

Had a student come in before he did and ask questions. He NEVER followed up with me regarding what the student wrote down. The student misquoted and got facts wrong which ended up in my file. That cost me a life insurance policy. He actually got angry with me when I confronted him about this and refused to change my file or put in an explanation. Also, he kept asking me my family history INSTEAD OF LOOKING IT UP ON THE COMPUTER IN FRONT OF HIM. He saw my face and said" Gee I just I could look that info up"....ALSO, FOR SIX YEARS OF SEEING ME ON A REGULAR BASIS, HE STILL WALKED INTO THE ROOM AND INTRODUCED HIMSELF LIKE I WAS A NEW PATIENT.....LAZY LAZY LAZY LAZY

NEVER TOLD ME THAT I WAS DIABETIC UNTIL MY BLOOD SUGAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL FOR 8 YEARS!I HAD TO ASK FOR BLOOD TEST RESULTS BEFORE HE LOOKED AT THEM!

should have dianosed my type 2 diabetes in 2002. my blood test indicated that i was perdiabetes before 2002 and had family history of it. He must not have read any of my blood sugar results for when he gave me my results of my blood work since i started with him the lab had noted that the blood sugars were high! He NEVER told me that they were high until! I had asked for a copy of my blood work and when I did not receive a copy after a month his office finially looked at the results which were VERY HIGH for the blood sugar. Then he wanted to see me! I had even told him that several of my siblings were dianosed with type 2 diabetes and he was not worried about it. Also had other signs that diabetes might be a problem and he did not take them into consideration.
