I was seen last night (12/29) at the Pinnacle Health ER and diagnosed with what is basically a sinus infection, given a prescription for an antibiotic and released. When I got home, I came across a bag of Jack Links Teriyaki jerky that I remember opening a while ago and it releasing a bunch of mold spores, which I inhaled. Within a week, the sinus infection began and I started feeling progressively worse. While being treated, last night I had forgotten about the mold exposure, and returned this morning to the ER to provide them with additional information which I had forgotten to mention (the mold exposure). Dr. Lasek asked me the standard, what brought you in type of questions, to which I replied that I had been diagnosed with a sinus infection and prescribed an antibiotic. I told him about the mold exposure and how I began to get sick within a few days afterwards and that I just wanted to make sure that they (collectively) had that piece of information so that their treatment… plan could be substantiated or altered. Not being a medical professional, I don't know if Augmentin is more effective at treating a sinus infection possibly induced by mold as opposed to Zithromax or some other antibiotic. He asked me if I had any sinus discharge and if there was any blood and I told him that I had provided a specimen in the sink. Instead of looking in the sink he went on to ask more questions, and told me that since I had not filled my prescription yet, he would make sure that I had a dose of Augmentin before I left. He said that he was going to look at my diagnostic tests and would return. While waiting for him, I processed my interaction with him and came to the realization that he hadn't really listened to what I had said -- as another example, "You've only taken 1 dose of Augmentin, you can't expect it to work that quickly", which contradicted the statement that he would give me a dose of the antibiotic before I left since I hadn't filled the prescription. Maybe he's a good doctor, maybe he's not, but I can tell you that his bedside manner is deplorable, and I will not waste my time being talked down to and being subjected to his arrogance.
