My name is Robert A. Matthews. I am a general and family dentist that has been practicing dentistry in Brevard County for over 27 years! PerfectFit Dental is the name of our dental office at suite 105, 3345 N. Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, Florida. We first opened PerfectFit Dental in March of 2007, and my dream of providing high quality / low cost dentistry without a rushed environment had finally come true!!
Background
I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with honors after a full scholarship from the United States Navy. After graduation, I successfully completed a 4-year internship program in the United States Navy. It included one year of hospital based Oral Surgery, complex, partial and complete dentures, root canal therapy, periodontics, advanced crown and bridge treatment, and reconstructive cosmetic dentistry. I am a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.
I previously owned and operated a family dental practice in …Satellite Beach, FL for more than 10 years. I became frustrated with the overwhelming small business demands that prevented me from providing the low cost part of "high quality / low cost" dental treatment that I so much wanted to accomplish. I thought if I practiced dentistry in a large group, I could then serve the community with my goal of "high quality / low cost" dental care. Well unfortunately there were parameters and obstacles beyond my control that prevented me from achieving that goal.
When I was a young boy my hero and mentor was my grandfather. He was late in his dental career, yet took the time to teach me much more than just dental technique! In those days, a dentist provided general dentistry, oral surgery and all his/her own dental lab work. My grandfather always said, "to be a good dentist, you need to couple the patient's needs and wants with an on site dental laboratory that could adjust the lab work at chairside on an immediate basis".
I realized that his words were the answer to providing high quality / low cost dental treatment. I knew I needed to join my quality complete dental care with an on site dental laboratory with qualified, certified and registered dental technicians. PerfectFit Dental was born!
Since our opening in 2007, we've been very successful in acheiving my dream. Of course a great team cannot function with only one member. We have been blessed with a wonderful office manager, experienced registered and certified dental technicians, a gentle registered dental hygienist and several talented certified dental assistants. We all look forward to serving your dental needs and wants!
