Dr. Mattrey is an expert in Body Imaging. He was the director of X-ray CT and then became the Director of Body MR when UC San Diego acquired an MR scanner in 1985 and served as the Director until 2005. He continues to be involved in all aspects of Body imaging, particularly Prostate MRI. He translated ultrasound contrast media from bench to bedside and is considered a world authority in this subject. He performs ultrasound contrast studies to assess vascular patency, tumor characterization and viability as well as tumor response to therapy. He conducts many clinical trials mostly related to ultrasound contrast applications.
