Dr. Robert Bruce Mooney, DO

I think Dr. Mooney is one of the worst doctors & humans on the face of the earth! He and a couple of other doctors seemed to be blocking me from getting necessary medical care after getting a bone infection at the hands of another doctor. Apparently doctors communicate to each other through online doctor-to-doctor patient portals. Dr. Mooney used the EPIC System (which contains Care Everywhere). After I had gotten a major bone infection after a tooth extraction (called osteomyelitis of the jaw), Dr. Mooney refused to provide me with necessary testing for several months while I was experiencing major health issues linked to a massive jaw infection that became a chronic illness called osteomyelitis of the jaw. Mooney was my family physician for about 14 years. What was typically his over-testing type mentality had suddenly become a refusal to order tests linked that might show an infection. I had ear pain, headaches, and neck pain (etc.) for over a year - and now I have severe bone… pain at night. During this time, I asked Mooney repeatedly to order a CT with and without contrast to see what was causing my problems - but he refused. The health issues got worse and then I thought I was having a stroke - yet Mooney still refused to order imaging of my brain with contrast dye. Afterall, contrast dye is more likely to show that I have an infection. I believe Dr. Mooney was doing everything in his power to keep me from proving I had an infection. Apparently having a serious chronic illness for life meant little to him - just avoiding what might become a lawsuit (despite that I never expressed a desire to sue). If you are looking for a caring and honest doctor, I'd look elsewhere! Furthermore, if you are someone who blindly signs doctor paperwork to be treated...know your rights! You are signing over privacy and allowing doctors to tap into doctor-to-doctor patient networks called "Health Information Exchange" to determine whether or not they are willing to treat you. You are legally allowed to "OPT-OUT" of ALL Information Exchange Networks (such as P3N, EPIC System, Cerner Power Chart, KEYstone HIE, ETC). Otherwise, if there is a medical mistake, doctors can communicate to other doctors and possibly block you from getting needed medical care as doctors refuse treatment - just like Dr. Mooney had refused me. I'd highly recommend that all of Dr. Mooney's patients write a brief letter stating that you "opt-out" of ALL Health Information Exchange Networks. If you are a new patient, I'd recommend going elsewhere.

Compassionate and caring dr. Has been there for me and my husband and both kids. Knowledgeable of all aspects of problems we brought to his office.

Dr. Mooney is a very thorough, caring, and brilliant doctor. I feel lucky to be under his care! ~LK

Dr. Mooney must be in need of as much money from the insurance companies that he can squeeze out of them. It's apparent that he guesses a diagnosis and then treats it to see if he got it right. He orders test after test so you have to keep on going back to him to review results and to find out that you "might" have (insert diagnosis here). As I said in the review title, "guess and medicate" is NOT the proper practice of medicine. And if a patient's diagnosis is OUT of your scope of practice, then that doctor SHOULD be referring patients to a specialist of the PATIENT'S CHOICE. Dr. Mooney also refers a TON of his patients to ALL Geisinger specialists. I have to wonder if he is receiving any kind of a kickback for sending patients to them. That means it's possible that Dr. Mooney receives MONEY for sending his patients to Geisinger doctors. When a specific specialist was requested, the staff stated that Dr. Mooney said "no." And here I thought it was the PATIENT that was the… boss of THEIR own body. If this is your doctor and you have never had a serious illness, then get out NOW before you DO. Because not only will Dr. Mooney guess at what you have and prescribe multiple medications, he will order a ton of tests and then send you to doctors that HE wants to send you to.

Dr. Mooney and his staff are TRULY committed to their patients. I have a chronic/recurring infection issue --they have called in scripts for me on vacation, business trips, and so on. Dr. Mooney has called immediately one time that the on call doctor failed to reach me within an hour of my contact. To put it simply: if he sees pain or suffering, his immediate and an unyielding reaction is to relieve his patient! He is truly kind and really listens. He is really great for a general doc on mental health issues as well and won't hesitate to relate to you. In response to negative reviews, Dr. Mooney is pretty blunt and isn't fancy, but for basic medical care from someone who is passionate about helping others, he is your guy. I've heard stories of him staying through the night at hospitals for his patients and advocating for them above and beyond. He goes the extra mile and I recommend him heartily!

Dr. Mooney is the finest diagnostician I have ever known. He is current on research, able to discern patterns across seemingly unrelated items, very thorough in his treatment, and willing to spend time exploring alternatives. He engages the patient in his or her care. In short, he's wonderful!

My mother saw this man in an emergency situation. I wish we would have stayed home. He not only misdiagnosed -he ordered a medication that would have done her extreme harm if someone hadn't notice it. I wonder if the above clients ever had a problem that was not somewhat routine.

I've been with Dr. Mooney for a long time, and have seen him think outside the box while other doctors will only see what the 'average' person experiences. This has helped out family tremendously. I don't know who sees these reviews - sometimes they come up in Google, but wanted another voice sharing a positive experience with Dr. Mooney and his staff.

Dr. Mooney and his staff are excellent. It's not always easy to get an appointment, but I attribute this to the small practice and the strong demand for quality medical care that they provide. Dr. Mooney takes the time to listen and communicate. You never feel rushed. I've had experience with Dr. Mooney in both a hospital and office environment and couldn't be more satisfied with the level of care I have received.

In this era of health care, the overwhelming majority of docs do not spend quality time with their patients...Dr. Mooney is so wonderful in that he takes time with his patients and really listens to them.He is kind, empathic, honest, upfront and intelligent..He has been my doc for almost 20 yrs..
