In addition to an MD he has a PhD in clinical research from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and he was fellowship trained in critical care medicine at the NIH. Prior to joining PHMG in 2002 Dr. Pelz practiced infectious disease and critical care medicine in Everett, Wash. Dr. Pelz is serving both as a hyperbaric medicine specialist at Riverbend and as an infectious disease specialist. His practice is open to new HIV patients as well as infectious disease consultations. He is eager to assist the medical community with infectious disease consultations, and management of chronic infectious diseases, including HIV and hepatitis.

Dr. Plez saw me for Cryptococcal meningitis as a result of a reading by a pathologist.The petri dish did not grow the disease. Also, I did not have the usual symptoms. Dr. Pelz pursued it with research. He had me give three or four blood and urine samples to nail it down. I never developed the symptoms so we ended the search. He was methodical and caring. He did not give up until we were sure there we no symptoms.

Dr. Pelt is very knowledgable and inspires confidence. He is very easy to talk to and takes time to check in with you and make sure that you have all of the information you need to make good treatment decisions.

I was at my Or. house after knee replacement surgery in Ca. Got a virus infection and had to do it over again up there. My wife (a retired nurse)uses the word genius whenever talking about him to others. For the first time EVER, I understood what was going on, why and what to expect. I have never felt such confidence in a Dr. before. If I ever needed that kind of care again, I would be on the first plane to Or.
