I had neck surgery done several years ago by a local orthopedic surgeon, who accidentally ripped my esophagus during the procedure. A week later, I had 13 post surgical infections. Luckily Dr. Peskind was on call the night I came into the ER.Yeah, he was a little doom and gloomy when, I first met him, but in all reality it WAS that serious, and he was concerned. Like a night in shining armor, he helped clean the infection up with a few more surgeries and repaired the rip and put me on a life saving antibiotic regimen, then sent me home to recover for a few more months. Remember I have this huge whole in my throat, with no way to eat...so they had to put a picc line in to get me nutrition.Well, one day my neck starts to hurt pretty badly, so I return to my orthopedic surgeon. He looked me over and couldn't find anything. The pain was pretty unbearable and was warm and tender to the touch and I wasn't willing to ignore it.I didn't know exactly what was going on, but I did know enough to… trust my gut which was telling me to go directly to Dr. Peskind's office. He evaluated me and concluded that I most likely had a blood clot as a result of some sort of problem with my picc line. He immediately called the hospital and got me set up with an overnight stay with all the tests I needed. I didn't even have to wait in the stupid ER. True VIP service.It turns out he was right. I did have a blood clot.So there you have it. A man who saved my life twice. Maybe he wasn't as touchy feely as I am. After, the whole save my life thing twice occurred, I went in to give him a heartfelt "thank you" and reached my arms out in an embracing fashion.He completely froze up and a little terrified said, "Oh God, you're going to hug me now aren't you?" "Yep, that's what you get for saving my life. Deal with it!"
