Dr. Robert Michael Prudent, MD

Dr. Prudent is a very knowledgeable psychiatrist but his compassion towards me was tough on me. I was in the hospital for a serious case of Sepsis. I got out of the hospital October 12 with a heavily bandaged knee and pain. I thought I had let Craig, the office manager, know that I can't make my October 16 appointment due to my situation. We actually did a zoom session in which I of course, I paid for it as usual, but here is the upsetting part. I have been a patient of Dr. Prudent for many, many years. He charged me $150 for a missing October 16 appointment, he refused to give forgive the $150 missed appointment. The charge was put on my mother's credit card in which I was an authorized. i can't think of anything more disappointing.

I'm sorry I didn't check these reviews before making an appointment with this man. I'm glad so many of his patients think he deserves 5 stars, but they leave precious few comments. Reading the comments by the people who felt wronged by him tells the real story, though. It's unusual for there to be even that many bad elaborations made, and you can multiply those many times for all the unhappy patients who never make comments online on ratings sites like this. Dr. Prudent is cold, indifferent and beholden to drug companies.

I had no idea what to expect when I walked into Dr. Prudent's office - I've been to many psychology sessions, but never a psychiatrist. I was impressed from the start. He has a welcoming and calming presence, is as sharp-witted and obviously talented as one could reasonably be and is frankly provides a pleasant oasis (of sorts) during the midst of most any day. He listened to me about "my story" carefully and then decided upon a beginning regimen of medication (one for sleep, one for anxiety and one for depression, which I was already taking). It mostly worked, but I was still struggling with deep and debilitating depression over the loss of my husband and so he decided to switch courses to a different type of anti-depressant. He explained to me how each type affected my brain's chemistry differently and why he thought this might be superior to the other - it ultimately made a world of difference! His office is lovely, he is timely, kind, talented, organized and enjoyable… and I simply couldn't hope for a better psychiatrist with which to trust the health of my brain. Thanks, Doc!

Dr. Prudent is knowledgeable about medications. He cares about his clients and has never failed to assist me when I have problems with my meds. He is a excellent physician .

He misdiagnosed me with a bipolar II disorder and loaded me up on so many medications. I then failed the SCID for this diagnosis in 2012, administered by Dr. Brian Tolliver at MUSC. The "symptoms" he used to misdiagnose me were related to years of being prescribed benzodiazepines and other neurotoxic medications by numerous psychiatrists. But he never questioned that the medications were the problem and became quite flustered and lectured me when I expressed the desire to go off of them. I am now almost medication free and my nervous system is still healing, but my life was ruined by doctors like Prudent, who see chemical intervention as the only solution. I still went into the hospital several times trying to get off of them, doing what he called the "rip the band-aid off approach." What he failed to acknowledge was protracted benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome. When these symptoms surfaced he just diagnosed me with something worse and placed me on more medications. To keep a long… story short, I never had a bipolar disorder of any kind, but I am now on disability with a crippled nervous system because of psychiatrists like him....and their medications. I entrusted him with my brain and he not only betrayed me, but has most likely contributed a shortened lifespan by heightening my predisposition to early onset dementia. I just ushered my father through this kind of demise in December. It is a terrifying, heart-wrenching way to pass - and Dr. Prudent has contribution greatly to the chances that I will die in the same way.

Spends more time writing than engaging. Holds purse strings over medication for new patients - you've got to pay to play for a while even if you've been on the same regiment for years. Pharma reps seem to have been somewhat influential in the practice. I've never seen more drug company paraphernalia displayed by a mental health professional. Unimpressed.

In terms of results, Dr. Prudent achieves them. He is professional, and I think it is important for one to understand the different roles a psychiatrist plays versus a psychoanalyst. He takes time to understand your circumstance, and he does not get you to jump into anything you are not yet comfortable with. He has been very helpful, patient, and focused on helping me with my challenges, and I am very grateful for his assistance. I don't know that there is a psychiatrist that is his equal in Atlanta.

Dr: Prudent, is a cold distance person, that has no manners. I was surprised that someone behave like that. I would not recommend him.

Dr prudent is moderately knowledgeable butwith one of the worst bedside manners going.I consistently leave our meetings feeling worsethan when I went in. He gives virtually noIndication of any concern about my feelings or experience.

He is a good listener, quickly understands the problems and gives good analysis of various resolutions.
