Dr. Robert Saltman, MD

My wife and I have been his patients for years. Caring, competent, responsive, welcoming, with a solid staff that has been with him for years, as well. 100% satisfied.

Poor bedside manner. Unless you need a physical you cannot see him. His nurse handles most of the work. His skill is number of patients rather than time and quality of service.

I have been seeing Dr Saltman for 20 years, and have found him to be an excellent source of info and care for my chronic conditions (thyroid, diabetes, on an insulin pump). I feel that way about all of my Wash U affiliated Top Doctors who seem to go the extra mile to help their patients. It is a busy office, but I always have my questions answered with proper attention paid to my concerns. Post office visit follow up is more than excellent - I receive a written report of lab results, and if I have questions, phone calls are returned on the same day, as are faxed questions - within minutes!! Patients have a responsibility to be prepared for their visits as well, and not waste the office's time with late arrival times or silly expectations,such as expecting continuos free samples when they can well afford to pay for their prescriptions. That is why those signs are posted, because people take advantage and waste a lot time with their unrealistic expectations. I think this office and… the Doctors who own the practice should be commended for providing excellent service!

Dr. Saltman is the man! He takes the time needed with me, and even asks me the questions I might not have even thought of. His staff is easy to talk to, and sends my prescription out to me with just an easy phone call. I'm not sure if some people would be satisfied with any doctor, they just complain that their doctor doesn't sit in the room with them for an hour or tells them not too worry, like they're asking for a problem. He's a doctor, which means he's busy but knows his stuff and would tell you if he recognized a problem. He doesn't waste your time. In, out, on your way, but in a professional way. The nurses are hot too! Thumbs up to Saltman on that one.

Dr. Saltman, who treats me for diabetes, listens carefully and then proceeds as through I hadn't said anything. I don't have any more trouble getting an appointment because I am now in the diabetes protocol--1 appt every 4 months, made at the previous appointment. The medical techs are excellent, but the front office staff needs some training in courtesy. The staff has taped up signs about what they will and won't do, and how much they charge to fill out certain forms, and Dr. Saltman doesn't seem to realize that other doctors don't do that.

Takes a fine amount of time on each visit. Thorough. Follows up well. Returns calls. Personable.

I have seen Dr. Saltman on several occasions for post-thryoid cancer follow-up. He is polite but seems to listen only cursorily to complaints. On the last visit I recounted that I was still struggling with having sufficient energy. I wondered if perhaps a different brand of synthetic thyroid my be absorbed better. He felt there was no value in switching from Synthroid and didn't demonstrate any desire to discuss the topic further. The staff is polite but not particularly considerate of the patient's time. I didn't wait long to get into the exam room but waited several times more than 10-15 minutes at a stretch for the doctor to enter and then return after blood work was completed and then again to receive paper prescriptions. So, what was really a 10 minute appointment in total takes 45 minutes or more. Displayed on the waiting room counter and within exam rooms are signs affixed with tape detailing the service restrictions observed by the practice. These signs list the steps… the patient must follow to obtain 90-day script refills. Patients are cautioned to NOT call the office to obtain lab results as these will be mailed out after 10 days. It's too bad that this doctor, who has a 'good' education, and this practice do not realize that patients are the reason for their existence.

I found him to be unwilling to listen to my feeling regarding my health. He strictly goes by numbers, not interested on what the patient is telling him. As far as making an appointment, the secretary refuses to make one unless you make it for a physical. I found that to be disturbing, when they don't even listen to the concerns of the patient, only demanding that a physical must be made.
