Dr. Robert William Schlauch, MD

After receiving Psychiatric treatment from age 12 to age 14, including a 5 month hospitalization at age 14, & further Psychiatric treatment along with Psychotherapy almost continuously from age 35 to age 51, I received a recommendation to consult with Dr. Robert Schlauch in Needham, MA. I described & explained my history of symptoms, traits, behaviors, feelings, & condition from birth onward (with what I could not remember of my first two years being explained to me in great detail by my mother over the years) in the same manner & in the same detail as I had conveyed to at least 6 Psychiatrists & 3 Psychotherapists during that 17 year period which had only resulted in several misdiagnoses & ineffectual (and sometimes outright deleterious) treatment & medication choices. Dr. Schlauch listened to my personal history from a fresh perspective without presuming that my previous Psychiatrists must have somehow been at least partially on the right track. He observed me very attentively,… thoroughly, & carefully, including my history of Psychiatric medications & treatment. Dr. Schlauch was rather quickly able to determine that at the ROOT of my particular compendium of symptoms & traits was a High-Functioning variation of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which fit the actual facts of my life history like a hand in a glove, & we were able to proceed from there with understanding, treatment, & medications that actually addressed my ASD traits & for the first time in my life I was able to experience noticeable relief from my torment. We did try a few different medication combinations during our first few years of working together (and I DO mean TOGETHER, as Dr. Schlauch has always listened carefully & has been a true COLLABORATOR with me in our treatment decisions, NOT always agreeing with me, & NOT passively assenting to my choices or conclusions when they were wrong, inappropriate, or ill-advised, but definitely NOT a dictatorial "know-it-all" directorial person in any way), & we did finally discover, agree upon, & settle into what we consider to be the most effective medication regime for me which we have adhered to for the past several years. I have been under Dr. Schlauch's treatment for 12 years as of this writing, & I SINCERELY hope that I will never be forced into the position of having to choose a different Psychiatrist, & that he will be my Psychiatrist until the day he retires from his medical practice or until either one of us dies, whichever comes first.

I've been seeing Dr Schlauch for close to a decade for a number of issues and was referred to him by another dr as being an excellent practitioner for difficult or unusual cases, which I am. Over the years Dr Schlauch has always taken time with my case and me, done extra research and consulting with other specialists as needed for my treatment, and been very open to my feelings and comfort levels for various treatment options. I appreciate very much that he is always very easy to get a hold of by phone and he always returns his own phone calls promptly. It is very rare for him to be running behind schedule at appointments and I appreciate his timeliness.I also appreciate his openness, honesty and candor when he is stumped by a problem and appreciate that he explores all avenues possible to figure out a possible solution.
