Robert S. Scoma, MD, is a board-certified thoracic surgical oncologist and is also certified in basic, advanced cardiac, and advanced trauma life support. Dr. Scoma has previously served as affiliate assistant professor of surgery and clinical instructor for the JFK Medical Center Campus at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, division chief of Thoracic Surgery and chief of staff at Good Samaritan Medical Center, and division chief of Thoracic Surgery at St. Mary's Medical Center.Dr. Scoma is an associate fellow with the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the Florida Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas in 1986, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania, Jefferson University, and Rutgers University.

From the moment I met him I felt at ease and knew I was in good hands.He explained everything that I needed to know and answered all my questions. He saw me before surgery and put me at ease and was there later and every day I was in the hospital. He is very professional, knowledgeable and caring . I would highly recommend him.

Dr Scoma is not interested in the care of his patients as much as the amount of money he is going to make from their illness.

Dr. Scoma takes the time to explain the procedures and made me feel secure and comfortable with my decision to undergo a robotic lobectomy. I was able to get back to work in less than a week!

Dr. Scoma is very knowledgable and compassionnate, as well as a well-respected, excellent surgeon. He stays up-to-date on the latest techniques such as robotics, but has the experience to make you feel confident with any surgical technique that he recommends.
