Dr. Robert Alexander Shaffer, MD

Liked Dr. Shaffer. He prescribed meds for issues with choking. Told me to call & speak with his nurse if I had issues. It made me extremely sick. I took it for almost 5 weeks altho I was experiencing extreme diarrhea & bleeding. I called several times and couldnt get a call back. Called my primary - he told me to stop taking immediately. Shaffers nurse finally calls back weeks after my initial call & barked at me for discontinuing the meds. She said if I was really bleeding that much, that I should go to nearest & get a blood transfusion..?? She refused to leave the doctor a message to call me back. Not sure how the reviews are so high with a staff that find returning patient calls a low priority. Seems that they are lacking in the areas of respect & empathy, as well.

Dr.shaffer is knowledge of his field. I have had abdominal pain for while now and his test didn't give any answers so he sent me to a surgeon for more answers and I'm pleased with my care received. I would recommend Dr.Shaffer to anyone looking for a GI doc.

This guy is a saint. He saw me pro bono until my insurance kicked in, and spent a lot of time with me when I was in the hospital. I'll never use a different GI doctor. I've seen a ton of doctors over the years for my Crohn's and he's the most efficient doctor I've ever met in my life. He's quick, have your questions ready, he'll as plenty of his own as well. He's great!

I had a colonoscopy with Dr, Shaffer. I knew the medicine had not completely worked and told the staff, but they encouraged me to go through with it anyway because they could "finish evacuating" during the procedure. It turns out they could not. He attempted the procedure anyway unsuccessfully and I got a call from the nurse the next day saying I needed to reschedule. I asked to talk directly to him to see what percentage of my colon he could see and after talking with 2 different nurses allegedly reading the same chart, I got 2 different answers. I kept asking to talk to Dr. Shaffer before too much time passed and he forgot what he saw during the procedure. It took 2 weeks to get a call back from him and he had done dozens of procedures since then but talked as if he remembered my procedure. I have my doubts because he gave me a different answer than the 2 nurses. He only seemed interested in rescheduling me, not answering me. He did explain that he had a busy schedule, but I have a… busy schedule too and chasing him down is something I won't make time for in the future. If a Doctor values his busy schedule to the neglect of mine, he will no longer be my Doctor.

Went to Shaffer because his father in law is no longer in practice. I was scheduled for a endo-oscopy. The endo has caused TMJ and I have had to have alot of work done on my teeth since the procedure and 6mnths later I am still having a lot of throat pain and having to see an ENT again to try and find it there was damage done during the procedure. He never spoke to me about what was found in the endo only spoke to my family. Do NOT recommend this doctor. He had no follow up with me after the procedure.

Dr. Shaffer is an intelligent doctor but I feel he is arrogant. He seems distracted everytime I visit him. I feel like he doesn't want to be at work. And I don't feel like he spends enough time talking to you.

I was scared out of my mind to have a colonoscopy but I was referred to Dr Shaffer and at first I was thinking "I don't think so" when I first saw him. He was a little too easy on the eyes and I really expected an older grandfatherish person. Well, his bedside manner is great and he took away all the fear of going through this procedure. It was nothing like I expected. I had been afraid for no reason. I had 2 polyps and he removed those and I haven't had any problems. If a doctor has no bedside manner, he should just choose another profession because patients really need that.
