Dr. Robert Slater

I had seen Dr. Slater a while ago. It was an unpleasant experience. My husband was with me. Dr. Slater gave very little eye contact. He went through a list of questions and only wanted short responses. If I explained, he said NOT NOW. He seemed more interested in writing down answers. His taking my case history was very inadequate. He seemed confused. He prescribed too much medication without discussing side effects or overdosing. I felt over medicated and could not function. My husband called his office and receptionist assured that Dr. Slater would return the call. He NEVER did. We call 2 days later and demanded to speak to Dr. S. When he got on the phone, he angrily said to make an appointment next week and that he was too busy for phone calls. In fact, he did not know who I was. He never looked at chart before getting on phone. He is a disgrace to his profession.

Dr. Slater is a moody person. I have a rare neurological disorder for which treatments vary and are not always helpful. There is no cure. Yes. he did diagnose me. However, he overmedicated me so that I was non functional. He does not spend enough time discussing and prescribing medications. Do not ever call him because he gets angry, does not call back, and does not have your chart available to best assist you. He just says come in next week even in an emergency.

Dr. Slater has a very special way of caring with compassion,patience and understanding. He treats my Mom for dementia and makes each visit a pleasant/easy experience for her.

Dr Slater is thorough and intelligent. Being treated for neurological disorders is very complicated and usually requires the patient to be patient while different medicines are ruled in or out as far as helpfulness. I have had success while being treated by Dr. Slater

Dr. Slater is erratic and moody. Forget phone calls--he does not return them and if and when he does (days later), he has no idea who you are, and is therefore not helpful at all. He has yelled at me the 2 times that I called in an emergency, and his only response was to make an appt. next week or go to the ER. I question his accuracey on medication and dosage, as each patient reacts differently and he needs to spend more time in this area. That is where follow-up phone calls are needed, but he does not function well on the phone.

I would not recommend Dr. Slater to anyone. For a Dr who has been in the profession as long as he has he has the worst bed side manner. Which comes off as being rude. He went through a list of questions and when I tried to elaborate he would tell me to wait till the end. At the end he made a diagnoses without hearing what I had to say. It ended up being a misdiagnoses that could have been avoided if he listened more carefully. He also prescribed medicine for his diagnoses before getting any test results back to confirm it. Glad I got 2 other opinions.

He is kind and compassionate. Always returns a telephone call the same day, no matter what time. Does not rush through an appointment. Cares for the family also.

Dr. Slater does not elicit enough information before prescribing dosages of strong medications. He does not offer explanations of side-effects. Dosage was too strong, and when i called his office because I could not function due to severe, incapacitating side effects, he did not call back, although receptionist assured me he would. When I reached him later via answering service, he did not know who I was and hollered at me to stop complaining and learn to live with my condition. He did not want to listen to me, and just about hung up on me. I had to see my internist. Another time, similar experience with an additional drug and a severe reaction--I called to see if I should go to ER. Again, he yelled at me to learn to live with my condition and make an appointment next week. I could not wait a week. He said he was too busy to speak with me. Again, I went to my own internist. Where is the empathy and care and concern for a patient who phones with an emergency? Dr. Slater is totally… unprofessional.His receptionist is always on the phone speaking loudly and inappropriately on personal calls.

Overall, Dr. Slater is a good specialist that is treating me for chronic migraine. He is knowledgeable, but sometimes his office appearance, hit or miss personality, sometimes "old school" type doc, and mood swings can sometimes be stand offish. I will say that my last visit was positive and he took ample time to ask questions, answer concerns, and didnt make you feel rushed. His office admin also flip flops with her overall mood and is a bit "kookie". Sometimes she is friendly amd pleasant, and other times she is just rude and curt. She is a bit overboard and sometimes is not professional. There are certain little knick knacks she posts at the reception area, and some are completely inappropriate and include her personal views about race and immigration issues, and inappropriate jokes she clips and hangs which Im sure has to have offended other people over the years.
