Dr. Robert Sundel, MD

We feel so blessed to have our daughter under the care and guidance of Dr. Sundel. He really takes his time and listens to us and the way he interacts with our daughter is so kind and sweet. He is extremely knowledgeable and caring. We moved all the way across the country for our daughter to be cared for but Dr. Sundel and the rest of the team at BCH and we could. It be more pleased! Thank you, Dr. Sundel! You’re a rockstar!

Dr. Sundel was my rheumatologist when I was a minor, but old enough to have input into my own medical decisions. He consistently brushed off my concerns about certain medications he wanted me to try, acted irritated by my anxiety that stemmed from living with a chronic medical condition but never suggested that I seek mental health treatment, and encouraged me to give up physical activities that I loved despite there being no evidence of these activities furthering joint damage. To inspect the condition of my small joints, he would squeeze the joints in my fingers hard enough to make me cry. When questioned about the neccessity of this practice by a resident sitting in on one of my appointments, his response was "if it doesn't hurt, you aren't doing it right." No rheumatologist I saw before him or since then has ever purposely inflicted pain on me that didn't have a medical benefit.

This guy didn't listen to the patient (an 11 year old boy in chronic pain for 7 years) nor his mother and essentially dismissed all the input he got from either of us. He told us he should go do some exercises and then he should be 'fine'. Another doctor after him, discovered he had TWO torn meniscuses (Dr Sundell checked and said he was 'structurally sound') and chronic Lyme (which I had suggested but he laughed at me). He treated a complex situation (7 years of chronic pain) with a blunt instrument (himself). No interest in ever seeing him again. (and I believe at the time he was head of the Dept)

Personable, knowledgeable and able to explain to layman. Wonderful experience.

We love Dr Sundel! My son has a very rare disease and Dr Sundel always takes the time to listen to us and our concerns. We travel from NY to see him. His staff are the best and so is he!

The man's arrogance got in the way of his correctly diagnosing my son's illness. He interviewed my son and me very insensitively. He consistently dismissed odd lab findings as irrelevant and they turned out to be relevant. He gave us a wrong diagnosis and prescribed medicine and treatment that was not appropriate. On top of that, the front office was a bureaucratic mess.

Excellent Doctor. I was in the Hospital for six months and he was there for everything. Took three months to find out what was wrong and he worked day and night to find me an answer. He even brought me a birthday gift for my thirteenth birthday while I was in the hospital.

Dr Sundel identified a very rare disease in our son. We had seen many doctors before him to no avail. Now, under the treatment of Dr. Sundel we have a healthy happy little boy!

Dr. Sundel is great. We brought our son to Boston Children's due lack of lyme's expertise and response in Morristown, New Jersey - Morris C ...

He was very caring and did an excellent job with a diagnosis as well as making a referral for treatment.
