In 2010, he received the Samsung's Hope for Children Spirit Award, which was presented in recognition of his dedication to the children fighting cancer. He has received a $50,000 grant from T.J. Martell Foundation to explore new therapeutic pathways in pediatric leukemia. Prior to medical school, Dr. Sutphin served the United States Air Force as a medical laboratory technician/instructor. He was bestowed a Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and named Sheppard Air Force Base (Texas) Junior Instructor of the Year. Dr. Sutphins professional affiliations include memberships in the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
