Dr. Robert Truog, MD

Dr. Robert Truog is a nationally recognized pediatric intensivist, anesthesiologist, and bioethicist at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he serves as the Frances Glessner Lee Distinguished Professor of Medical Ethics, Anaesthesia, and Pediatrics. He is Director Emeritus of the Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics and has spent more than three decades caring for critically ill children at Boston Children’s Hospital, including serving as Chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Truog earned his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, completed training in pediatrics and anesthesiology, and pursued fellowship training in pediatric anesthesia and critical care at Boston Children’s Hospital. Widely regarded as a leader in medical ethics and critical care medicine, his research and scholarship focus on end-of-life care, definitions of death, organ transplantation ethics, medical decision-making, and …communication with patients and families. He has authored hundreds of publications and several influential books in the field of bioethics and has played a major role in shaping ethical standards and education in medicine nationally and internationally.
