Dr. Robert Brian Wesner, MD

Dr. Wesner is an excellent psychiatrist. He spends a great deal of time with his patients, is very knowledgeable about medications and returns phone calls the same day. Dr. Wesner is a very kind and compassionate person. He also has an adorable chocolate and yellow lab who sit in on his appointments.

Dr. Wesner has been my psychiatrist for years. He worked a very tough case of depression into remission, and I've continued to go to him for maintenance appointments even though I've since moved. Throughout my time in his care, he has demonstrated extreme skill in selecting and explaining treatment options. Maybe more importantly, his empathy and calm, friendly demeanor in each session makes me feel like I'm more in the care of a friend than a doctor. Couldn't have asked for a better psychiatrist for treating my mental illness.

I've been a patient for over six years now, and I can honestly say that I've never had an experience with a health provider that's been as rewarding as I've had with Dr. Wesner. Dr. Wesner and his Office Manager, Bonnie (who is awesome), are dedicated to providing the best care possible. To pass the furniture test a doctor must have chairs that put you both at the same level. Dr. Wesner also has a table that makes you feel you are working together and that defines a safe amount of space between Doc and patient. Dr. Wesner listens to all kinds of things and hears me and reads me. He doesn't just have a checklist for symptoms. He thinks things through and has surprising amounts of knowledge to reference. He is respectful. He always has another idea to try when the last one isn't the best. He understands complex interactions between various types of personal and mental and social situations. He has good ideas. He's a good guy to talk to -- to talk things over -- and he shakes your hand when you leave.

I've been going to Dr. Wesner for about a decade now for OCD. I had gone to one other "mental health counselor" for a few sessions before that, and she was not helpful at all, brushing it off as "nervousness and stress." Dr. Wesner has been so helpful, and I can honestly say he's helped turn my life around! He knows the medical part of OCD, and how to control it with medicine, and he also understands the human part of it very well. He has been so non-judgmental, hopeful, yet realistic. He understands the social stigma of a mental illness and the effects it has on family relationships. In fact, it's great that his office is in a regular building downtown, not marked as "psychiatrist" on the outside- nobody would suspect that you're going to a shrink if they saw you walk into the building! When I first came to him a decade ago, I felt like OCD was controlling my life, and now it's a very small part of life, in thanks to him. Thanks, Dr. W!
