Dr. Robert Sze-Mon Yuan

DANGEROUS DENTIST MUST AVOID!!! Dr. Yuan is a liar, insurance fraud, and a crook. I never went to this guy before and I only went in for a regular cleaning because his location is next to a Panda Express. I only found it because of Panda Express as I was buying delicious orange chicken. I made a horrible mistake going to his practice. So I went in for a cleaning and Dr. Robert Yuan demanded that I get 3 fillings and a root canal. I was very disappointed to hear that and somewhat surprised because I take very good care of my teeth. But since I came in for a cleaning I asked for the cleaning then get all this other work done a day or two later. It also makes sense in that you want to do the work on teeth that are clean. But "Dr." Robert Yuan demanded that I get all the procedures done all at the same time at that moment, the very first time I came to his practice! That is CRAZY! He showed me a bunch of before and after pictures of other patients who had multiple fillings and how he… replaced them all. I said I just want the cleaning done for the time being and come back for all the other work the next day. So he grudgingly did the cleaning. Also, there was no one else there! I was his ONLY patient! And I asked if the woman who I assumed was a dental hygienist could do the cleaning and Dr. Robert Yuan said that she is actually not a hygienist. Hahahahaha. So that woman was just a random, unlicensed person he hired and dressed her up as a hygienist. Laughter aside, that is DANGEROUS. After the cleaning was done I was scheduled to come back the next day to get all this other work done. The next morning I woke up and felt so dismayed. I prayed. Then I got the compulsion to go get a second opinion from a different dentist. I went to another dentist who told me I only have 1 small cavity and it can EASILY be taken care of with just 1 small filling. He also said I needed a teeth cleaning. Hahahahaha. Dr. Robert Yuan GRUDGINGLY did the cleaning only a day prior and he did NOT do a good job. I got the NECESSARY filling done by a reputable dentist AND a REAL cleaning done from a LICENSED dental hygienist. Then with Dr. Robert Yuan, I paid for the cleaning in cash because I did not have my insurance card with me at the time. Dr. Robert Yuan assured me that if I get the insurance information to him he will refund my cash payment. So obviously after I got my small filling and the ACTUAL teeth cleaning done from a reputable dentist and his hygienist, I canceled my DANGEROUS appointment with Dr. Robert Yuan but gave him my insurance info expecting a refund. I found out later that Dr. Robert Yuan charged my insurance but never gave me my refund. I called Dr. Robert Yuan and they REFUSED to give me my refund AFTER charging both me AND the insurance company for the same teeth cleaning. He DOUBLE DIPPED. So I reported Dr. Robert Yuan to my insurance company for committing INSURANCE FRAUD. The insurance company went after Dr. Robert Yuan. Dr. Robert Yuan needs to be reported to the Dental Board of Examiners and have his license REVOKED. If you are a person who had any work done from Dr. Robert Yuan, get a second opinion and if it is the case that Dr. Robert Yuan performed unnecessary procedures on you, report this dangerous man to the Dental Board of Examiners! It was only by the grace of God my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that I was SPARED from suffering unnecessary dental procedures from a poorly skilled, poorly equipped, fraudulent, and DISHONEST dentist. REASONS TO AVOID DR. ROBERT YUAN: 1) Will pressure you into getting unnecessary dental procedures done. I almost got an unnecessary root canal! 2) Does a poor job on actual services that are needed that you request and pay for! 3) Commits insurance FRAUD. This was CONFIRMED. There is EVIDENCE. This dentist was reported by me and was CAUGHT. 4) DO NOT go by the untrustworthy Yelp reviews of his practice. DANGEROUS DENTIST. AVOID. GET A SECOND OPINION!

Dr. Robert Yuan is a very professional and knowledgeable dentist who takes his time to explain everything upfront. He doesn’t make you feel rushed or pressured to do any procedures. His staff is also very friendly and accommodating. They went over my insurance coverage and estimate, which was very accurate. Highly reccomend!

Bad experience here. These people are not transparent and dishonest. In the beginning when I started coming here, Dr. Yuan was oddly promoting a lot of services that could be done. I didn't like doing something that seemed unnecessary so I brushed them off. Then one day, he recommended me to fill up surface abrasions for my teeth because they had a slight potential of becoming cavities. He provided me a quote and assured me this was covered by insurance. I asked to think about it, then came back in a few weeks and confirmed with him again if it was covered, then proceeded with the filling appt. ONE YEAR LATER - The receptionist switched to a new person. She casually brings up when I come in: Oh hey, on top of the $500 copay you paid last year, you need to now pay us an extra $500 because it turns out this isn't covered by insurance. We've been having this issue with some people. What? They didn't tell me anything for a year... I confront Dr Yuan about this. He says he can't… "keep up with all the codes and regulations" and shrugs. Well that means every time you get a service done here it's prob risky that it won't be covered by insurance because "they can't keep up with all the codes and regulations." This caused me to do a lot of calling, each phone call avg 40 min with my insurance company to figure things out. In the end, my claim is escalated and the insurance company flat out says this is just obviously not covered by my plan and my dentist shouldn't have recommended me to do this based on false pretense it was covered. They tell me to file a grievance with them so they can dispute with the dentist. Not sure who to believe, but since there was already no transparency with Dr Yuan, I strongly believe there is some shadiness going on here. I feel like these people at Culver Family Dentistry are the type to try to push you to do all these unneeded types of services, not really caring if it might be covered or not by insurance. *Update - I got a 3rd party opinion, and they said they would not have recommended the service because they know it's not covered. They would have recommended me to wait it out to see if my gums would recover, of if the abrasion actually becomes a cavity.
