Dr. Roberta Lee Van Zant, DO

My family physician told me honestly that he did not have the expertise to treat various problems I was having. I'd had unremitting sinusitis and bronchitis for decades. Also, my balance was off, and I was experiencing frequent falls. I'd read that the Mayo Clinic had determined that the majority of sinus infections were caused by fungi, not by bacteria. Since I'd tried all manner of antibacterials, that sounded as if it might be the case with me. But I could not find any place on the internet where I could get an anti-fungal drug with which to treat the sinusitis. I was surprised when during my first visit to her, Dr, Van Zant showed me a small machine made to deliver anti-fungal mist to my sinuses. I took it home with me, and after using it just two times, I experienced sinus relief. I was able to breathe normally again! Also, since the sinus infection was what was mainly responsible for the bronchitis, that also abated. The initial visit to Dr. Van Zant was expensive. $450… dollars. But she spent an extensive amount of time with me, and I would have paid far more to get relief from the sinusitis and bronchitis. But she did much more than that. She referred me to several specialists, through whom I found out that I have Stage 3 Kidney disease, and that I have no IgA, the portion of the immune system that protects the body's mucus membranes, and no IgG, which is what protects the body from overall disease. Follow up appointments with Dr. Van Zant are few and far between, and for those she charges $250 dollars. She does not accept any insurance, and she is in a position not to have to do so, since there is no one in or near the 61550 zip code who has the training and the expertise she does. If you are a member of Samaritan Ministries or a similar organization,, you can get some reimbursement after you pay for your appointments out of pocket. But insurance or not, if you have an ailment no doctor can properly treat, I recommend you visit Dr. Van Zant. Aside from her out-of-the-box approach to medicine, she is also pleasant to work with.
