Dr. Rodd Galt Stockwell, MD

Seeing this doctor is more like appearing in front of the Inquisition. "You have not suffered enough, so more pain for you!" Behind his smug facade, there’s a mindless pill-counting stooge, put in by Kaiser to make them look pretty with the DEA, nothing else. He’ll offer all kinds of wingbat ‘holistic’ courses to make you ‘understand’ your pain better, but his single goal is to simply withhold painkillers from his patients. It’s all about the reporting and how few pills he prescribes to keep the DEA happy. Screw the p[atients. That's his job, pretending your pain isn’t there so you can go home and suffer in silence. And the so-called Pain Clinic should be renamed the Pain Prison, because it's where you get sent by Kaiser for the crime of being in pain. He is the worst doctor I have ever run across in my entire life and his delusional programs, which do little or nothing, should be a disgrace even to Kaiser.

This man has no business in the pain management field. His mission at KP is to reduce the amount of pain medication prescribed, to head off the state of California and federal agencies that are making trouble for doctors and hospitals under the guise of addressing the opioid epidemic. Hard to decide which of them know less about what they are doing. He has made his way through the CP program like a man on a mission, upsetting long established therapeutic structures with no regard for the pain that he is causing, and offering no medically valid reason for it. He operates like a man whose salary is determined by the number of patients he can discomfort. His solution for chronic pain is to will it away by meditation and mind games, and he believes in it with all the enthusiasm of a newly ordained Amway distributor.

He once made a comment in pain management class "you all sound the same to me" That was his response to a lady trying to explain the problem she was having. he asked her if she thought her pain was different? That was his comment in front of the class, we were all appalled and new we were wasting our time trying to learn or receive any type of help from this man. I was on a very high dosage of F patch at one point. as I going joints replaced and could function easier I cut back on my own. When I meant The person "I have trouble calling him a doctor" I was at what was then the minimum. With a smurk on his face he said WELLL it is lower now. There is no way to deal with him you can only hang on for the ride. Our first meeting lasted an hour. all he talked about was my meds. at the end I told him I found it interesting he never talked about my pain. He actually got mad because I had called him out. He said that is exactly what I am trying to do. I am going to lower your medication every… month for 6 months the change it to Myrophine. You have a tolerance so changing it will help. I went from 35 on my patch to 12 in 3 months. he then wanted to change it to myrophine. I told him no. When you have to live with a great deal of chronic pain life is very difficult. There are some days you don't think you can stand it any longer and you use an extra pill. Then at the end of the month I would be asking for early refill and we would have that problem to deal with. His answer to me "I don't deal with that, normally after the first month people get so sick they don't make that mistake again" He has absolutely no compassion at times it almost seems to be funny to him. I swear on my Mothers grave I believe he is the worse doctor I have ever been in front of and ever will be!

Horrible treatment.

This doctor should not be allowed to work with suffering patients. He has demonstrated time and again his inability to take another’s perspective. And what’s the point anyway? He knows more about your body, including you. In fact, he knows more about everything “good” and “safe” for you than you. To heck with your quality of life! Like someone else here, he actually suggested I quit my job. What!?! No, how about you treat me adequately? And not make every insincere excuse in the book as to why you won’t, shove me off the minute I don’t respond to your inadequate program and threaten me with cutting off my meds if I don’t? Is it not his and every doctor’s solemn oath to, at the very minimum, do no harm? I’m saddened to say that this man is so caught-up in his need to be “right” (even when he isn’t - in any ethical, moral or just plain decent way) that I’m afraid he is doing more harm than good. I pray he opens his heart and one day truly understands the power he wields over… vulnerable, stigmatized and truly suffering patients’ lives and decides to use it more compassionately.

My husband has suffered under the "care" of Dr. Stockwell. While my husband was in the throes of severe pain from a neck injury, Dr. Stockwell announced that he will wean him from his Fentanyl patch, one step down every two weeks (he was on highest dose). He did not discuss it with us. Naturally, my husband was sick each two weeks and by the time he got better it was time for another step down. Dr. Stockwell only granted us one break (giving him extra time before next step down) and denied us another. He is now Fentanyl-free for one year, but how sick is that? Currently, my husband is in the throes of the most excruciating pain in his life and he requested a "bridge" of opiates so that he could function (I have to take care of him, he is so dysfunctional from pain). My husband is unable to take other pain alternatives, nor is he a candidate for epidural or surgery, due to other serious health ailments (including brain injury that limits his cognitive abilities). We paid out… of pocket for alternative physical therapy because Kaiser's is so lame. My husband does everything else - stress management, mindfulness, yada yada...Dr. Stockwell refused, didn't take into consideration his limitations, told him he'd have to go to his classes but wouldn't tell us what the classes were about (hubby has already been to classes at Vallejo clinic). He couldn't even summarize it for us - said he does a half-hour overview and he doesn't have time because he has to see other patients. Meanwhile, the paramedics know us by name because they're at our house several times a week to take husband to the ER because he cannot tolerate the pain. He's nearly suicidal. I've filed a grievance against Dr. Stockwell and Kaiser denied our request for opiate ("not medically necessary"). Apparently they think ER visits are more cost effective. I guess they're in a better position to decide how much pain you are in.

No bed side manners, contradicts everything he says in visit! No communication! Changes medication without awareness! False diagnosis! Pour health internship! Reviewing all cronic conditioning before evaluating!

I just read the comment that" he doesn't understand pain"..I live in Boston( Lawrence, Ma.)area so am not sure if this is the same Dr S. My Dr.Rod S. Had a beard ...but, I cannot find any other Dr with this name......mine. did move to Ca. and I heard became Holistic??

As you can see by all the reviews... he probably should not be treating patients with chronic pain. He might be well spoken but his words are out of touch with reality. It's sad really to see talent clouded by bias and hype. I hope he can one day learn to see things from the pain patients perspective and find a true middle ground and not one based on sensationalism

One star is too much. He is the most useless dr I have ever met. He really does not care about patients and the problems they are going through. He lies to you and staff members. He should not be a Dr. When someone asks a question for clarification on something he is wrong about, he refuses to answer, and just says it is time to move on. What an a hole.
